Waynesboro prepares for primary election: THE AGENDA

Update: The Waynesboro Electoral Board delayed the meeting to Jan. 24 due to ongoing icy conditions.

Waynesboro’s boards and commissions are active this week, with city council, the planning commission, electoral board, and historical commission conducting their business.

The Waynesboro City Council will present its 2024 Black HIstory Month proclamation and likely adopt a $5 million dollar budget amendment, similar to Staunton's amendment last week.

The Waynesboro Electoral Board is preparing for the primary election in March. The board will review polling locations, early voting, and training for the poll workers.

In-person early voting in Waynesboro is located at 501 W Broad Street and will run from Jan. 19 to March 2, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an hour lunch break at 1 p.m. Early voting is also available on two Saturdays, Feb. 24 and March 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Both the Republican and Democrat sample ballots in each district are available on the Waynesboro website.

The Waynesboro Planning Commission will elect officers, set its schedule, and discuss “proposed zoning text amendments” during its Tuesday meeting. No proposed zoning amendments were included in the agenda packet.

The agenda packet did contain the 2023 annual Planning Commission report, which gave an update to some of the city’s new housing projects.

“Residential subdivision development remained strong throughout 2023. Preliminary major subdivision plats for two new subdivisions were approved over the course of the year: Hopeman-Gilford and Rosser Avenue. These developments will collectively yield 243 townhouses. Construction continues at the Ivy Commons with its first phase reaching completion resulting in 62 single-family homes. Work at the Creekwood subdivision has also continued throughout 2023, with 46 villas and townhouses reaching their completion. Construction continues on the final phases of the Evershire subdivision, with most of the remaining 40 single-family homes reaching completion and progress made on the remaining 46 townhouses,” reads the report, available in the agenda packet.

The commission will also decide if a Waynesboro property, 300 N. Augusta Ave., will be rezoned from MX-B (Mixed Business) and RG-5 (General Residential) to L-I (Light Industrial).
