Waynesboro Republican announces candidacy for Pennsylvania House of Representatives

Chad Reichard of Waynesboro is the second Republican to announce a run for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives seat currently held by Paul Schemel, who is not seeking re-election.

“I will champion the strong, conservative values of our community in Harrisburg, and make certain that the 90th District becomes an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” Reichard said in a news release.

Schemel announced in August that he would not seek a sixth term representing the 90th Legislative District which includes Waynesboro, Greencastle, Mercersburg and Mont Alto boroughs and Washington, Quincy, Antrim, Peters, Montgomery and Warren townships. In October, Janon R. “Jay” Gray of Greencastle announced his candidacy to replace Schemel, whose term expires Nov. 30, 2024.

Announced in August: Leaving the House: PA Rep. Paul Schemel won’t seek sixth term

A lifelong resident of Waynesboro, Reichard said his family settled in Franklin County in 1770. He said he stands for the values and integrity of the people of Franklin County and looks forward to sharing his unique, pragmatic vision with the residents of the 90th Legislative District.

"First and foremost, I am committed to bringing my fiscal responsibility to Harrisburg to protect the hardworking families of the district,” Reichard said. “Coming from a farming family, being employed since high school and working with men and women from all backgrounds and economic circumstances, I appreciate the importance of keeping more money in taxpayers’ wallets. The residents of Franklin County know how to spend their hard-earned money better than Harrisburg."

He previously was a staff member in the Pennsylvania Senate and U.S. House of Representatives.
