WB City Council has busy work session agenda

Mar. 12—WILKES-BARRE — City Council will meet in a combination work session/meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

A resolution will be discussed to approve the transfer of a restaurant/liquor license for 165 Wilkes-Barre Blvd., the former site of the Chicken Coop, from a Foster Township business. Applicant is Tapas on the Boulevard LLC.

Other resolutions to be discussed include purchase of rock salt for 2023-2024 and the reappointment of Tom Harfman to the city's Board of Health.

Council will also discuss entering into agreements for Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants.

One is with The Wright Center for Community Health for expansion of programs that would request a $2 million .

Other RACP grants to be discussed are with the Domestic Violence Service Center emergency shelter improvement project for $1.2 million; Wyoming Valley Art League Circle Center for the Arts renovation project, $750,000; Dorothy Dickson Darte Center ADA upgrades, $2.5 million; King's College Student Success Center project, $500,000; MRI Recycling Facility expansion project, $1 million.

City to promote 2 paramedics,

swear in 2 new firefighter/EMTs

Mayor George C. Brown has announced a swearing in and promotion ceremony for Monday, March 13, at 10 a.m. in City Council Chambers, 4th Floor, City Hall, 40 East Market St.

The Mayor will swear in two new fire fighter/EMTs and promote two paramedics.

City partners with Misericordia

for 6-week wellness program

The Wilkes-Barre City Health Department has partnered with Misericordia University and the Wilkes-Barre Housing Authority to enhance senior high rise residents' quality of life through a 6-week physical activity and wellness program.

As part of the master's degree physical therapy curriculum at Misericordia University, students can provide a supervised evaluation and exercise wellness class for high-rise residents without the seniors having to leave their homes.

Free balance screening, blood pressure checks, diabetic foot screening, nutritional information as well as low impact physical therapy group sessions are part of the weekly one-hour program.

The next Free and Fun Wellness & Physical Activity Check will be on Monday, March 13, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at East End Towers Community Room, 295 Scott St.
