WBOC-TV's morning news anchor Jimmy Hoppa has been off the air. Here's what we know

Viewers of WBOC-TV may have noticed the absence of a familiar morning face over the past few weeks.

WBOC-TV is a regional news source serving the Delmarva Peninsula, and a Delawarean has provided leading coverage for the stations in Salisbury, Maryland, and Dover for the past 27 years.

Jimmy Hoppa, of Laurel, is the morning news anchor for WBOC “News This Morning” and the afternoon talk show co-host for DelmarvaLife. But for the past three weeks, he has been off-air.

Fans of the show and Hoppa took to Facebook to inquire about his absence and wish him well.

“Good morning Tameka, Mike and Bill. And until the return of Jimmy Hoppa, good morning. We all want to see how great that lawn is of yours since you have been off. Make Mike and Bill jealous,” one comment read.

“I hope Jimmy Hoppa is OK. Miss him in the mornings,” another commenter said.

When a fan asked what happened to Jimmy Hoppa on a May 5 post to the station’s Facebook, the account responded that he is off for a few weeks for a medical procedure and will be back soon.

“He is doing well; we’ve been in contact with him,” said a receptionist at the WBOC-TV Salisbury station. “He will be back. Actually, he should be back any time.”

If you’ve been gripping the edge of your seat every morning waiting for Hoppa’s face to brighten up your morning, rest assured staff are confident he will be back on air in no time.
