WBTV meteorologist’s wife says Jason was ‘bighearted, gracious.’ Funeral services set.

A visitation and funeral have been announced for WBTV meteorologist Jason Myers.

The visitation and funeral will be held at Carmel Baptist Church at 1145 Pineville-Matthews Rd., WBTV first reported.

The visitation takes place Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church in Matthews. The funeral will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the same location.

Myers, 41, died in a helicopter crash along Interstate 77 Tuesday with Sky3 pilot Chip Tayag. He is survived by his wife, Jillian, and their four children.

Support for families

A GoFundMe was started to honor and support Myers’ family.

“Jason was every bit as bighearted, gracious, and kind as he appeared on your television screens, and he was larger than life at home,” Jillian wrote on the GoFundMe page that has garnered $147,339 in donations. “He did so many things well, but he loved best of all.”

She said her family has been overwhelmed by the generous outpouring of love and support from the community. On Tuesday, leaders and organizations across North Carolina shared their condolences for Myers’ and Tayag’s families.

A GoFundMe was also started to support Tayag’s family. About $40,383 has been raised so far which exceeded the family’s $15,000 goal.

“Chip was an experienced helicopter pilot for over 20 years and had flown with WBTV for 5 years,” it states on the crowdfunding page. “He had a deep love for his family, friends, and his Catholic faith.”

Jillian said her husband anchored his life on his Christian faith, which informed and directed all of his decisions.

“He never missed an opportunity to share with others the true source of his joy, and it’s that very hope that we’re clinging to now,” she wrote. “To know him was to love him instantly, and we will miss him for a lifetime.”
