‘WcDonald’s’: McDonald’s creates anime-inspired fast-food experience

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – McDonald’s is launching a new anime series called “Welcome to WcDonald’s.”

WcDonald’s is an anime version of McDonald’s that has been featured in popular anime movies and shows.

Starting Monday, McDonald’s will be launching WcDonald’s in over 30 markets worldwide. The restaurant will transform into a WcDonald’s universe, featuring a new sauce, manga-inspired packaging and episode shorts.

McDonald’s is collaborating with Studio Pierrot to create the first official WcDonald’s anime series, titled “Welcome to WcDonald’s.”

Every Monday through March 18, a new short episode will be released, along with new manga on WcDonalds.com or by scanning the code on the WcDonald’s bag. The shorts will celebrate four of anime’s biggest subgenres — action, romance, mecha (a large armored robot) and fantasy. They include:

  • “The Race to WcDonald’s” (Feb. 26)

  • “Love from Across the Booth” (March 4)

  • “WcNuggets Space Frontier 3000” (March 11)

  • “The Wisdom of the Sauce” (March 18)

McDonald’s has partnered with Acky Bright, a Japanese manga artist/illustrator, to design custom WcDonald’s packaging and the cast of the anime series.

The promotional packaging features a scan code that customers can use to access the latest episode. McDonald’s plans to launch a promotional sauce that combines ginger, garlic, soy, and chili flakes. The sauce can be compared to a 10-piece WcNuggets.

On March 9-10, the first real-life WcDonald’s will open for two days in Los Angeles, California. This multi-sensory immersive dining experience will feature both entertainment and food.

Fans can experience the WcDonald’s universe through 360-degree projection mapping and immersive tabletop projections inspired by the four WcDonald’s anime episode shorts. The food served will be a set menu of WcDonald’s items.

Fans can reserve their spot exclusively on OpenTable starting Wednesday by searching for “WcDonald’s Immersive Dining Experience” on the OpenTable app or website.
