Forbes Magazine has released their annual list of the richest people in the world and a trio of Oklahomans (or families with Oklahoma ties) landed in the top 200.

The richest man in the world now is Bernard Arnault and his family. The Frenchman oversees the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which oversees several luxury brands, and acquired Tiffany & Co. in 2021. Forbes lists his net worth at $211 billion on their list.

The magazine notes that billionaires worldwide have seen their overall wealth drop by $500 billion since last March, with the cumulative wealth amounting to $12.2 trillion. To put that in perspective, the U.S. federal government spent $6.27 trillion in the 2022 fiscal year.

The United States reportedly has the most billionaires, with 735 list members worth a collective $4.5 trillion.

Here are the top three with Oklahoma connections:

Oil and gas tycoon is richest Oklahoman

Harold Hamm and his family are reported as having a net worth of $18.5 billion. To put that in perspective, that's less than nine percent of Arnault's net worth. They are listed as being the 89th richest in the world.

Born in Lexington, Oklahoma Hamm founded and now chairs Continental Resources, one of the nation's biggest independent oil companies.

Billionaire owns majority share of OKC Thunder

George Kaiser is reportedly worth $13 billion. To put that into perspective, that's a bit more than six percent of Arnault's wealth. He is listed as the 133rd richest in the world.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he took control of his family's company after his father suffered a heart attack in 1969. Kaiser-Francis Oil Company flourished under his ownership, allowing him to also buy the Bank of Oklahoma and own the majority share of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Love's Travel Stop owners are billionaires

Judy Love and her family are reportedly worth $10.9 billion. To put that into perspective, that's a bit more than five percent of Arnault's wealth. They are listed as being the 161st richest in the world.

Judy and her late husband Tom, who were both born in Oklahoma City, began Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores when they bought a gas station in Watonga in 1964. Today, the company boasts over 600 locations in more than 40 states.
