Weather Authority visits North Sand Mountain High

HIGDON, Ala. (WHNT) — On Wednesday morning, Meteorologist Jessica Camuto visited students at North Sand Mountain High School.

Jessica had the opportunity to speak with all grades, Pre-K through 12th, about what it’s like to be a broadcast meteorologist.

How the EMA prepares ahead of severe weather events

Though originally from western New York, she told the students she ventured to Alabama to get more experience in severe weather forecasting.

With it being severe weather awareness week, students learned about the importance of knowing the difference between a watch and a warning. Jessica stressed how important it is to find shelter during a storm.

When speaking to the 7th – 12th grade students, she took a look back at the April 27th tornado outbreak that had an impact on their community. Students learned of the three rounds of severe storms that day and the number of tornado warnings issued by the National Weather Service Office in Huntsville.
