Weather update: Notre Dame places tailgate restrictions as result of NWS wind advisory

As the result of a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the South Bend area Saturday, Notre Dame has placed restrictions on tailgate activities.

Notre Dame spokesperson Dennis Brown said the University is prohibiting tents and canopies in tailgate lots on campus ahead of Notre Dame's game vs. No. 5 Clemson Saturday. Kickoff is set for around 7:30 p.m.

The NWS has forecast strong winds throughout the day — 20 to 30 mph sustained out of the south with gusts over 50 mph. The winds are expected to last until kickoff when skies will likely clear and winds subside. Temperatures will be in the low 50s at game time.

The heavy winds prior to kickoff can blow away loose items and cause tree damage and power outages, according to the NWS.

Any chance of rain will be long gone by tonight. The sky will even start to clear overnight. Lows will be in the lower to mid 40s. The wind will be out of the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.

Anyone tailgating before the Notre Dame game this evening should prepare for the rain and wind. The rain should be gone by kickoff and the sky will start to clear throughout the game. Temperatures will be in the lower to mid 50s throughout the game.Looking dry for most of the week ahead - our next best chance for rain will arrive toward the end of the week.
