Webb City Superintendent testifies at capitol for state assessment change

WEBB CITY, Mo. — A southwest Missouri school leader is testifying in favor of changing how the state grades school districts.

Webb City Superintendent Dr. Tony Rossetti spoke in support of Senate Bill 814 in Jefferson City last week. He wants to see the state move away from one assessment test for all school districts.

Districts would still be assessed, but could choose their own testing protocols.

“We already have assessments that we use throughout the year, that we can measure growth and their achievement level. Let us use those as a way of saying, ‘hey, this is our accountability… and we can also use those for our accreditation,” said Dr. Rosetti.

State Senator Jill Carter, of Granby, sponsored the bill — which has not yet come before a vote of the full Senate.
