Keep Alamogordo Beautiful launched its new website on Wednesday, June 14 to provide residents with information on the initiative.

According to the new website, “Keep Alamogordo Beautiful is an affiliate to Keep America beautiful, Inc., and was made to serve the citizens of Alamogordo by developing and implementing public education and community improvement programs.”

Keep Alamogordo Beautiful also focuses on cleanup in and around the city with various projects asking community members to volunteer and make the city beautiful.

“We did a clean up project on Saturday, April 22 on the 54/70 bypass with approximately 85 to 100 participants. The cleanup was easier this year and I think we are having more cleanups through the course of the year so it’s really helping with the scenery going down the bypass on 54/70," said Commissioner Sharon McDonald.

The website shows volunteers cleanup event opportunities and a blog with information about the organization and a donation page to support the work in and around the city.

The site encourages residents to adopt a street or park to help clean the city and spread the word about the organization's work.

One of the next cleanup events the site is promoting is at 6 p.m. Friday, June 23. The cleanup is for the fourth Friday event at Griggs Sports Complex, 3000 N. Florida Ave. The event and cleanup lasts until 10 p.m.

“We are always looking for opportunities to work with our community and Keep Alamogordo Beautiful is a volunteer organization, so we survive only because of the volunteers,” Keep Alamogordo Beautiful Executive Director Sven Sears said.

Sears said the intention of the website is so that all residents willing to volunteer can do so by visiting the user-friendly site that makes things such as applications, adopting a park and event dates, much more accessible.

"I just want to make sure that this website is not only what Keep Alamogordo Beautiful is looking to provide to our volunteers, but I would love to be able to get feedback and have this organization shaped by the volunteers that we work with," Sears said. "So, if anyone wants to provide feedback or just get involved in anyway, we would love to have it."
