Webstaurant Store leasing Currwood's larger distribution center in Hagerstown

The Webstaurant Store LLC has executed a long-term lease to use a 1.2 million-square-foot building near Funkstown as a distribution center, according to a news release from MCB Real Estate.

Webstaurant expects to have over 700 new jobs at the facility once it's at full capacity, according to the release and Kristen Durkin, spokesperson for MCB Real Estate.

Durkin said the lease is for more than 10 years.

Information about the timeline for ramping up operations and whether those jobs are full- and/or part-time was not available by press time.

WebstaurantStore, as it is called online, offers online sales and distributes internationally more than 420,000 food service, janitorial, and industrial products.

The newly finished building is part of the Currwood Logistics Center off South Edgewood Drive in Hagerstown. There also is a 300,000-square-foot building in the logistics center, Durkin said.

The logistics center is close to Dual Highway. The development project led to the extension of Paul Smith Boulevard and the creation of the intersecting Lois Harrison Boulevard to provide a route for trucks from the Currwood center to Dual Highway, also known as U.S. 40. That area is about 1.5 miles from an interchange with Interstate 70.

WebstaurantStore expands distribution network

The new, larger building at Currwood will serve as the "cornerstone of WebstaurantStore's northeast distribution network," the release states. The facility will complement more than 20 distribution centers across the country.

The Webstaurant Store LLC is based in Lancaster, Pa.

The Currwood operation will strengthen the company's "capacity to achieve two-day shipping" to 96% of the U.S., the release states.

The WebstaurantStore plans to invest millions of dollars in material handling and automated storage and retrieval systems at the Hagerstown facility.

“This state-of-the-art Distribution Center marks continued growth for our company, bringing our total number of facilities in Maryland to four," Caleb Clugston, WebstaurantStore's vice president of automation and expansion, said in the release.

“Our Hagerstown facility is not just our largest – it will also be among our most advanced. We’re committed to pushing the boundaries of automation, ensuring seamless operations, and rapid order fulfillment for our customers. We are pleased to announce our partnership with MCB Real Estate to bring the project to life," Clugston said.

“We are excited to welcome WebstaurantStore to Hagerstown as home for their new state-of-the-art facility,” Hagerstown Mayor Tekesha Martinez said in the release.

“The city appreciates the collaboration of MCB Real Estate, its strategic partners, and WebstaurantStore that will significantly benefit Hagerstown, Washington County, ... and the surrounding region," Martinez said. "Their investment signals additional growth of our economy and workforce which proves Hagerstown is good ground to live, work, and do business.”

"The results — a behemoth of a deal that fulfills our vision while delivering substantial value to the region and to our investors, Bramble said.
