Wedding party evacuated during fire at Lake Norman fine dining restaurant
A Lake Norman fine dining restaurant is temporarily closed after flames erupted on its roof Sunday night, fire officials said.
Everyone safely evacuated from Epic Chophouse in the 100 block of South Main Street in Mooresville after a piece of equipment on the roof caught fire, Mooresville Fire-Rescue reported on Facebook.
On Facebook, restaurant management said the fire started in the kitchen.
Guests in the restaurant included a wedding party, The Mooresville Tribune reported. The fire started around 7:45 p.m., according to the newspaper.
No one was injured, according to the fire department.
Epic Chophouse is known for its steaks, seafood and specialty cocktails
The restaurant is in a historic, refurbished building that originally housed a dry goods store when it was built in 1888, according to its website. “For decades, the Rankin Store was a center of commerce for the community,” according to the restaurant website.
Epic Chophouse debuted in 2010 in the former Soiree restaurant location.
Firefighters with Mooresville Fire-Rescue Engine 1, Ladder 5, Engine 3 and Ladder 6 attacked the fire, according to the department. Multiple Mooresville Fire-Rescue and Mount Mourne Fire crews extinguished the fire and hot spots, officials said.
On Facebook on Monday, Epic Chophouse stated the restaurant will be closed until further notice for repairs.
“We are working tirelessly to get the restaurant ready to reopen,” management said on Facebook. “Stay tuned for more information and thank you for your understanding!”
Epic Chophouse also has a location in the Kingsley mixed-use community in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and plans to open in Greensboro by year’s end and in Raleigh in 2024, according to its website.
