Weddington church hosts Tim Tebow’s ‘Night to Shine’ event for the first time

Friday was a night to remember for a special group of students in Weddington.

Students aged 14 and up with special needs were given their own prom night known as “Night to Shine.”

The church hosted just one of the hundreds of similar events coordinated by the Tim Tebow Foundation. This was the first year since the pandemic that the dance was in person.

More than 60 guests were welcome to the dance, and a red carpet was lined with lots of paparazzi eager to get the perfect photo.

John Costello, the event’s organizer, told Channel 9 this was the first time Weddington was able to host the event.

“The joy they get from this fills a huge need in the community,” Costello said.

A student told Channel 9 she was excited to get dressed up, dance, and hopefully make some new friends.

In addition to the paparazzi, new friends, and fun music, each guest at the dance was named king or queen.
