Wednesday morning fair aimed at attracting more Section 8 landlords

Oct. 31—The Decatur Housing Authority will hold a landlord and community outreach fair Wednesday in an effort to recruit more landlords for Section 8 housing.

The fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Turner-Surles Community Center at 702 Sycamore St. N.W.

The agenda includes an overview of the benefits and responsibility of being a landlord, the best payment process and inspection requirements.

Kenneth Free, Alabama and acting Mississippi field office director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will be the fair's featured speaker.

The Housing Authority has struggled in recent years to find landlords to participate in its Section 8 program. This program supplies vouchers for low-income residents to aid them with rent of an apartment or home.
