NEW BEDFORD — The latest city shooting victim is now in stable condition, New Bedford police say, after a shots fired response Wednesday night in the West End.

According to the New Bedford Police Department, patrol units responded to a ShotSpotter activation near Chancery and Middle streets around 11 p.m.

"Upon arrival, it was discovered that an adult male victim had been shot," reads a social media post from NBPD. "He was transported to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition at this time. Detectives arrived on scene to further investigate."

Wednesday night's shooting is the latest in a streak of violent incidents in New Bedford. On Sunday, police said a man was shot in the area of Bolton and Rivet streets in the city's South End. The week prior, on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 police responded to two unrelated shootings in the west and north ends; and on Oct. 15, two juveniles were arrested in connection to the stabbing of another juvenile in the area of Ruth and Ashley streets in the South End.
