Wednesday's high school scores: Durfee baseball edges Somerset Berkley

FALL RIVER — It was a big performance by Alexis Montilla on Wednesday.

The Durfee right-hander pitched a complete game, lifting the Hilltoppers to a tight 3-2 non-league win over Somerset Berkley at B.M.C. Durfee High School.

Montilla scattered five hits, allowed two runs, walked one while striking out four for Durfee (6-6). Jeyden Espinal led Hilltoppers with two hits and a run scored in three at-bats. Sebastien Reis went 2-for-3, including a two run double in the third inning.

Josh Boria had a hit, an RBI, a walk and scored a run in the win.

Landon Richardson, Owen Derocher, Cole Taylor each had two hits for Somerset Berkley (9-4 overall; 6-2 in SCC).

Jon Lynch lost a pitchers' duel after going six innings, allowing three runs, three walks while striking out two.

Somerset Berkley host Greater New Bedford on Friday.

Bishop Connolly 8, South Shore Christian 1

The Cougars defeated South Shore Christian Academy.

Connor Travis, Nico Chaves, James Russell and Ryan Bouchard each had two hits for Connolly.

Leading the offensive effort with two hits each were Connor Travis, Nico Chaves, James Russell and Ryan Bouchard.

Travis picked up the win with relief help from Nico Chaves. The duo scattered six hits, walked two and struck out six.

Bishop Stang 4, Bishop Feehan 3, 8 inn.

The Spartans won in extra innings over Bishop Feehan to clinch the Catholic Central League South.

Seamus Marshall picked up the win on the hill for Stang (10-2; 8-2 in CCL). He scattered 10 hits, an earned run, walked two and fanned three. He also drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.

Justin Gouveia had three hits in the win while Brayden Bennett finished with a pair of hits and a run scored. Cam Letourneau contributed a triple and scored a run while Aiden Cardoza finished with a hit.

The Spartans travel to Dartmouth on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Joseph Case 15, Durfee 0

The Cardinals blanked Durfee in a mercy-rule contest to clinch a berth in the state tournament.

Hailey Berube and Emera Marcello combined for the shutout for Case (10-4), giving up just one hit. Megan Smith went 3-for-3 with two walks.

Olivia Silva had two hits, including a double, a walk and two RBI. Abby Sirois collected four RBI on the day.

The Cardinals host Bourne on Friday.

Diman 16, Blue Hills 0

The Bengals blanked league opponent Blue Hills.

Julia Gardner paved the way for Diman (9-5; 5-1 in Mayflower) with two hits, two stolen bases and three RBI. Patryce Vital went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Abbey Macedo had three hits, including two doubles and 3 RBI. Hannah Martin had a hit and an RBI.

The Bengals host Tri-County on Friday.

Westport 23, Avon 4

The Wildcats had their way with league opponent Avon.

Arianna DosVais collected the win in the circle for Westport (3-8).

Offensively, Tess Silvia was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Layla Bossie had three hits, four RBI and scored three runs. Alora DaFonseca finished with two hits, including a triple and three RBI.

The Wildcats host Holbrook on Thursday.

Bishop Feehan 7, Bishop Stang 6

The Spartans lost to league opponent Bishop Feehan.

Mikayla Brightman had a hit, scored a run, drove in two runs and walked twice for Stang (3-10). Katie Manzone collected a hit and had three RBI. Sydney Alboum finished with hit and a walk.

The Spartans travel to New Bedford Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

Westport 3, Diman 2

The Wildcats won a close match with Diman.

Luke Coelho and Fotis Machairas won their match at first doubles for Westport (2-9) while Jackson Forres and Brady Silva won at second doubles.

Freshmen Connor Kennedy and Rafael Infante each won their singles matches for the Bengals (0-6) in three sets.

Westport travels to Wareham on Friday while Diman takes on West Bridgewater.

West Bridgewater 5, Bishop Connolly 0

The Cougars lost their match against league opponent West Bridgewater.

Connolly (6-5) take on Westport on May 18.

GIRLS TENNIS

Diman 4, Westport 1

The Bengals took four of five matches against Westport.

Sophomore Lindsey Moniz was a winner at first singles for Diman (3-2) to improve to 3-0. Sophomore Elizabeth Kinnane won her match at third singles in three sets.

Sadie Krauzyk and Sabrina Angeli won their match at first doubles while Olivia DeMello and Kaydence Simoes won a marathon match at second doubles.

Gloria Moniz was the lone winner for Westport (7-4) at second singles.

The Wildcats host Wareham while the Bengals play Bishop Connolly at home Thursday.

West Bridgewater 4, Bishop Connolly 1

The Cougars played their best match of the year but lost to league opponent West Bridgewater.

Allesandra Arruda and Sammi Charett won at first doubles.

The Cougars face Diman on Thursday.

BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK

Dartmouth 93, Durfee 25

The Hilltoppers lost their meet to league opponent Dartmouth.

Brandon Pinero won the 200 dash; 24.0 and placed second in the 100 and the long jump for Durfee (1-3). The 4x100 relay team of Cristian Sanabria, Jorge Mendes, Timmy Costa and Lenzly Celestin took first place.

Benjamin Hankerson (100, 400), Cristian Parousis (200), Shane Estacio (discus), Sanabria (triple jump), Jorge Mendes (long jump) and Mohamed Kozamel (shot put) each finished in the Top 3.

The Hilltoppers will compete at SEC Championships on Monday.

GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK

Dartmouth 72, Durfee 58

The Hilltoppers lost to league opponent Dartmouth on Senior Day.

Shakira Cadet broke the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 35’9” and took first place in the event for Durfee (1-3). Adunoluwa Olubanwo won the discus with a new personal record of 95’1”.

The 4x400 relay team of Julia Raposa, Cam Letendre, Maggie O'Connell and Abby Saunders won first place.

Other event winners for Durfee were O’Connell (mile, 6:06.4) and Emma McDonnell (100 hurdles) and long jump.

Second place finishers were Abby Saunders (400 hurdles), McDonnell (100 dash), Jasmine DoSouto (shot put), Kacey Curran (discus) and Aimee Tiebout (javelin). Camryn Letendre (800) and Julia Matos (200 and triple jump) took third.
