Wednesday's high school scores: Somerset Berkley softball shows home run power in win

DARTMOUTH — It was nice bounce-back win for the Somerset Berkley softball team.

The Raiders won their ninth game in their last 10 outings on Wednesday, beating non-league opponent Dartmouth in a mercy-rule contest on the road, 14-0.

Laney Martin collected the win in the circle, pitching all five innings for SBR (12-4). She allowed just three hits while striking out 12 batters. Martin also went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Makenzie Jacob had a pair of hits, including a grand slam, a double, walked two times and had four RBI. Alexis Ridge belted a two-run home run and walked two times.

Sydney Bednarz had two hits and three RBI while Gabriella Nugent finished with two hits and an RBI.

Mary Jo-Laudati (two RBI), Lynnsey Bumpus and Victoria Dematteo also had a hit in the win.

The Raiders travel to Old Rochester on Friday.

BASEBALL

Bridgewater-Raynham 6, Durfee 5

The Hilltoppers lost a tight game at home with league opponent Bridgewater-Raynham.

Ethan Cambra led the way for Durfee (9-7) with two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI. Decon Mello finished with two hits and an RBI.

Alexis Montilla pitched a great game, going seven innings while giving up four earned runs, scattered 10 hits and struck out three batters.

The Hilltoppers travel to Dartmouth on Friday.

Dartmouth 9, Somerset Berkley 3

The Raiders lost at home to non-league opponent Dartmouth.

Dean Gobeil, Camden Hoyle, Cole Taylor, and Brennan Blaser each collected hits for SBR (10-6).

Jonathan Lynch took the loss for the Raiders.

Bishop Connolly 9, South Shore Christian Academy 0

The Cougars blanked South Shore Christian Academy.

Connor Travis picked up the win on the hill for Connolly. He also went 3-for-3 with three RBI. James Russell was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Finnegan Hall made a key defensive putout from the outfield and doubled off a runner at second base.

The Cougars broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the seventh.

Connolly takes on West Bridgewater on Thursday.

Austin Prep 12, Bishop Stang 0

The Spartans lost in the CCL Cup championship game to Austin Prep.

Cam Letourneau and Ryan Jones (double) each had a hit for Stang (11-4). Seamus Marshall suffered his first loss of the season on the hill.

The Spartans host Durfee on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

Bishop Connolly 3, Westport 2

The Cougars qualified for the state tournament after taking three of five matches against Westport.

Evan Kidd (6-1,6-3), Brian Ward (6-1, 6-0) and Alex Krynicki (6-1, 6-4) each won their matches for Connolly (7-5; 4-2 in Mayflower Athletic Conference) at singles. James McMahon and Jackson Forbes won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.

The Cougars host New Bedford on Monday while Westport (3-10) hosts Wareham on May 25.

GIRLS TENNIS

Westport 5, Bishop Connolly 0

The Wildcats swept all five matches from Bishop Connolly.

Kaelyn Jones (6-4, 6-2), Gloria Moniz (6-0, 6-0) and Sam Parker (6-1, 6-0) each won their singles match for Westport (8-5) in straight sets. Kyra Ferreira and Mikhaela Rego won at first doubles, 6-2, 6-0 while second doubles team of Madison Plourde and Taliyah Raiche were victorious.

The Wildcats travel to Wareham on May 25 while the Cougars (0-12) travel to New Bedford on Monday.

Diman 3, West Bridgewater 2

The Bengals won a nail-biter against West Bridgewater.

Lindsey Moniz continues her unbeaten season at first singles for Diman (5-2), winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Elizabeth Kinnane won at second singles while Kaydence Simoes and Madison Pereira played a back-and-forth battle and won in a tiebreaker set at second doubles.

The Bengals travel to Somerset Berkley on May 25.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Durfee 3, Barnstable 1

The Hilltoppers took three of four sets — 25-19, 25-17, 24-26, and 25-16 — to beat Barnstable on Senior Night.

Durfee (6-10) celebrated seven seniors on the night — Mac Reed, Colin Guillemette, Tony Gomes, Caio Morais, Talmadge Holloway, Matthew Mederios, and Tomas Hargis.
