Wednesday's HS sports highlights: Dover boys golf leads area teams at TCC Cibo's Invitational

Dover High School boys golf was the top area team finisher at the soggy Tuscarawas Central Catholic Cibo's Invitational held at Union Country Club in Dover on a rainy Wednesday.

Dover ended up fourth with a 335 score as Dylan Grewell led with an 80 and Jacob Hanner was right behind with an 81, while Ryan Yoder added an 86 and Zach Dale posted an 88 as did Chase Coyne.

Hoover won the event with a 324 and Akron Hoban was second with a 327, while Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary took third with a 333.

After Dover, Massillon was fifth with a 343.

New Philadelphia took sixth on a fifth-man tiebreaker over Indian Valley. Both squads shot a 346.

Nathan Menapace led the Quakers with a 77 and Louis Devore added an 85, while Jordi Kopp posted a 90, Gavin Blake had a 94 and Connor Rippeth recorded a 96.

Austen Gunn paced Indian Valley with an 81 and Deagan Beaber posted an 86, while Aden Trushell carded an 87, Brody Meade had a 92 and Daniel Grewell posted a 101.

Garaway's A team ended up eighth with a 350 and Strasburg was ninth with a 366, while West Muskingum placed 10th with a 368.

Garaway was led by Trace Gibson's 80 and Carter Miller's 81. Caleb Meek carded a 93 and Nick Maust added a 96 for the Pirates.

Trenton Bitikofer paced Strasburg with a 79 and Jason Grywalski scored an 89, while Gage Bonifant posted a 97 and Blayne Cooper checked in with a 101.

Carrollton took 10th place over Claymont after a fifth-man tiebreaker. Both teams shot a 381.

Dylan Maple led Carrollton with an 89 followed by Brysen Thompson (93), Everett Brook (98), Andrew Shockey (101) and Bryce Taylor (103).

Koi Preston led Claymont with an 81. Trenton Morris (91), Luke Caley (98), Trevor McGarr (109) and Brody Butler (111) followed.

Garaway's B squad (12th, 396), Malvern (13th, 420), Conotton Valley (14th, 431), Tusky Valley (16th, 435) and the host Saints (17th, 548) rounded out the field.

Kaleb Miller led Garaway B with a 91. Jackson Reifenschneider (92), Chett Troyer (106) and Lofton Numbers (107) followed.

Ethan Bush paced the Hornets with a 100. Daniel Untich (102) and Lauren Brown and Cam Rayborn (109s) also scored.

Gaige Galigher led Conotton Valley with a 91.Logan Reiter (103), Cole Edie (118) and Brooks Bower (103) followed.

Connor Gardner was tops for Tusky Valley with an 85. Cole Kuykendall (95), Kaleb Cook-Linaman (112) and Xander Tidrick (143) also scored for the Trojans.

Roman Breehl led the homestanding Saints with a 115 followed by Nate Wright (137) and Nick Williams (140).

Jack Porter of West Muskingum was medalist with a 75 and David Deibel of Hoban was runner-up medalist with a 76.

Boys golf

West Holmes 177, Waynedale 204

Trey Baker, fresh off winning grand champion turkey at the Holmes County fair led the Knights with a 41.

Fellow juniors Grady Toye and Kenzie Woods shot 43 and 44 respectively, and senior Marcus Miller finished the team scoring for the Knights with a 49.

Girls golf

River View Lady Bear Invitational

Tournament medalist Sammi Miller fired a 76 and Brooklyn Numbers posted a 77 as Garaway shot a 318 to win the River View Lady Bear Invitational held at par 72 Hickory Flats.

Hannah Steiner posted and 82 and Sydni Prysi carded an 83 for the Pirates.

Dover finished second with a 359 as it topped John Glenn on a fifth-player tiebreaker.

Riley Schie led Dover with a 78 followed by Piper Olson (87), Mya Downing (96) and Izzy Lint (98)

Schie was named to the All-Tournament First Team and Olson was on the Second Team.

Chloey Geog led River View, who was fifth with a 389, with a personal best 93 and was a Second Team selection. Caily Shriver (95), Paige Nicely (98) and Kortnee Mickle (103 personal best) followed for the Black Bears.

Indian Valley was seventh with a 417.

Claymont was ninth with a 422 led by Alivia Edwards' 87 as she made the Second Team. Meadow Duvall (102), Alexia Brick (116) and Mimi Bausch (117) followed for the Mustangs.

Ridgewood 219, Strasburg 246

Jacey Hess had a 51 as host Ridgewood defeated Strasburg in an Inter-Valley Conference contest at River Greens.

Olivia Spidell led Strasburg with a 56 followed by Hayley Reiger and Micah Burkett (59s) and Mya McGhee (72).

Girls tennis

Dover 4, Massillon 1

Dover improved to 3-0 after a win at Massillon.

Taylor Rose won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Kaleigh McCutcheon claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Josie Pinelli posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

Dover's Avery Contini and Katlyn Hines got a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles for the Crimson Tornadoes other victory.

Claymont 3, Orrville 2

Claymont picked up a win over visiting Orrville at Uhrichsville City Park.

Arianna Terakedis was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles and Makayla Kendall won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Emily Luyster and Maddie Houston claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

Brooke Davis dropped a hard-fought No. 2 singles match 6-4, 1-6, 7-6.
