Wednesday's HS sports highlights: Dover baseball wins 5th straight with shutout of Warren Local
Ayden Hall struck out 11 and Mason Stoldt drove in three runs with a double and single as Dover blanked visiting Warren Local 10-0 in a five inning East Central Ohio League baseball contest at Dover City Park.
The Crimson Tornadoes (5-1, 2-0) have ripped off five straight wins after falling in their opener at St. Clairsville.
James Leggett added a double and two RBIs and Nolan Kellicker posted a double, while Connor McGarry legged out a triple.
Warren Local dropped to 2-5.
In JV action, Dover nipped New Philadelphia 2-1.
Bryce Graziani was the winning pitcher, while Blayke Ring and Eric Lanzer each had a single and an RBI.
Strasburg 3, Central Catholic 1
Cooper Dailey threw a complete game two-hitter, allowing one unearned run and striking out eight as Strasburg defeated Tuscarawas Central Catholic in IVC North play.
Joe Fischer had two doubles, while Nick Martin had a single and double for the Tigers (2-3, 2-2), who swept the home-and-home series.
Hiland 14, Ridgewood 2
Hiland scored 14 times on 18 hits and allowed just four to host Ridgewood for an IVC South win at West Lafayette.
Braden Kaufman led the winners with four hits (three singles and a double).
Will Schlabach (three-run home run, two singles), Tony Yoder (three singles) and Nolan Yoder (single, two doubles) each added three hits and three RBIs, while Cody Yoder added three hits and an RBI as Isaak Yoder was the beneficiary on the mound and allowed just four hits.
Gabe Tingle and Chase Booth each had two hits for Ridgewood. Booth and Kaulean Smith drove in runs for the Generals.
In JV play, Hiland blanked Ridgewood 13-0 as Caden Coblentz threw a no-hitter.
Indian Valley 10, John Glenn 1
Gavin Henry's three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning snapped a 1-1 tie and help send host Indian Valley to a non-conference win over John Glenn at Gnadenhutten.
Henry was also credited with the pitching victory for Indian Valley. The righthander went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out eight and walking one.
Indian Valley collected 11 hits on the day. Cole Lancaster, Jaxon Burcher, Tanyon McComb, and Rafe Bonifay all managed multiple hits for the Braves.
Noah Winland led John Glenn with two hits.
Sandy Valley 9, Claymont 1
Nick Petro threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts as Sandy Valley defeated Claymont for an IVC South win at Magnolia.
Kaiden Mastri and Luke Williams each had two hits for the winners, who defeated the Mustangs on Tuesday.
Newcomerstown 11, Beallsville 1
Newcomerstown picked up a six-inning win against Beallsville.
Zach Quillin started on the mound for the Trojans. The workhorse went all six innings, striking out striking out eight an allowing one earned run.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Trojans worked 7 hits and 9 walks to keep the pressure on the defense. Logan Knepper, Bunk Millender, Chase Haver (two), Cage Miller, David Newkirk, and Noah McConnell all had hits for the Trojans.
Scoring runs were Matt Miller (three), Logan Knepper, Bunk Millender (two), Chase Haver (two), David Newkirk, Zach Williams, and Parker Cline.
Good pitching and great outfield play help the Knights beat the Arrows 6-3 in OCC play. Brayden Miller picked up the win on the mound throwing 5 1/3 innings with Mason Shankel throwing 1 2/3 innings.
East Canton 3, Malvern 2, 8 innings
Olly Schrader's infield single in the bottom of the eight inning plated the winning run as host East Canton topped Malvern in an IVC North battle and a home-and-home sweep.
Chase Vacco went distance on the mound for the win, allowing four hits and striking out nine.
Malvern scored two times in the top of the sixth on an Ethan Bush single for a 2-0 lead, but East Canton tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a big hit from Toby Schrader.
Malvern dropped to 2-5.
Northwest 13 Fairless 3
Winning pitcher Jack Czartoszewski drove in three runs as host Northwest knocked off Fairless in Principals Athletic Conference play.
Zach Kurz led the winners with three hits, while Beau Bleakley and Josh Smith each added two.
Andy Gill led Fairless (1-2, 0-2) with two hits, while Trevor Horrisberger, William Schumacher and Logan Barkan drove in runs.
Coshocton 14, Maysville 2
Kobe Rust went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and Hudson Wesney added two hits, three RBIs and was the winning pitcher as Coshocton rolled to a Muskingum Valley League win at Maysville.
Softball
Strasburg 14, Central Catholic 0
The Tigers improved to 7-1 with a five-inning IVC North shutout win against Tuscarawas Central Catholic.
Amelia Spidell pitched four innings, giving up two hits and striking out five. Lauren Harvey pitched the fifth to finish up.
Spidell had a single and triple and Emma Gilkerson added two doubles and a walk, while Sydney Sibila chipped in a double and two RBIs. Maggie Richards posted a triple, single, two walks and two RBIs and Ada Richards recorded a single and two RBIs.
JaeLynn Marks ripped two doubles and drove in three runs and Rylee Becker had a single, double and and RBI.
For the Saints, Jersi Hickman hit a double and Edith Quiroz hit a single.
Tusky Valley 5, Garaway 4
Susan Thompson hit her first career home run and Kylie Rohr picked up the win in the circle, striking out seven and hitting a home run as well as Tusky Valley picked up an IVC South win at Garaway.
Krystal Spillman went 3 for 4 with a double, Kadence Stutz was 2 for 3 and Elly Rothenstein was 2 for 4.
Thompson had two hits for the winners and Rohr went the distance, striking out seven
Meghan Petitte and Isabelle Tetreault each hit a double for the Pirates, who had the tying run on in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to bring it home.
Indian Valley 3, Tri-Valley 2
Indian Valley improved to 8-1 over after a non-league win over Tri-Valley at Gnadenhutten.
Mia Rose fanned eight to pick up the pitching win. Corra Love had a single and two RBIs and Gabby Meade added a double for the winners.
Claymont 6-10, Sandy Valley 4-4
Claymont posted an IVC South sweep of Sandy Valley.
Claymont jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 6-4 win in Game 1.
Claymont scored in the first on singles by Rylee Groah, Skylar Schilling, Lexi Greer and Anna Bloom in the first inning.
Amber Ward, Tatum Davis, and McKenna Burk had RBIs for Sandy Valley.
Meadow Duvall picked up the pitching win. The pitcher went five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out three.
Burk led Sandy Valley with two hits in three at-bats.
Claymont won the second game 10-4 as Savannah Morris had two doubles, a single and three RBIs and McKenna Brown posted three singles, while Greer had a single, double and RBI and Schilling and Lani Abbuhl each had two singles.
Breeli Faiello hit a home run and single for the Cardinals (2-5, 2-4).
Malvern 22, East Canton 20
In more like a score that resembled a football game, Malvern outlasted East Canton to give Coach Ashley Mayle Dorr her first career win.
The game was played at East Canton, but Malvern was considered the home team.
Philo 11, River View 3
Philo defeated River View for a Muskingum Valley League victory.
Harrison Central 3, Indian Creek 1
Harrison Central recorded a win over Indian Creek.
In JV action, Harrison Central won 9-8.
Boys tennis
West Holmes 3, Triway 2
West Holmes improved to 7-0 after a non-conference win over Triway.
Brody Schaad defeated Mike Dobec 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 at No. 3 singles, while Trevor Miller and Jacob Miller downed Kyle Hall and Xanthers Hasskew 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles and Marcus Miller and Alex Pringle stopped Brandon Mebrenz and Owen Feisher 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Marietta 4-4, New Phila 1-1
Host New Philadelphia dropped a doubleheader to Marietta at the Quaker Dome.
New Phila lost the first match 4-1 as Reese Meechan was the lone winner for the Quakers with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Nevin Lather at No. 1 single.
The Tigers won the second match 4-1 and Malcolm once again was NP's lone winner with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Lather.
