Wednesday's Top Prep Performers: Camarillo's Bateman throws perfect game with 17 Ks
Highlights from Wednesday in high school sports:
BASEBALL
Junior left-hander Boston Bateman struck out 17 of the 21 batters he faced and pitched a perfect game to lead Camarillo to a 11-0 win over Oak Park in a Coastal Canyon League game. The 6-foot-7 Arizona State commit needed just 86 pitches to achieve perfection on the mound and also had a hit and an RBI at the plate. Tommy Goodin was 2 for 3 with a two-run home run, Brandon Contreras had a hit and three RBIs, Danny Aguilera went 2 for 4, and Craig Morris was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Scorpions (12-9, 3-5).
Noah Onoye allowed one earned run in five innings with five strikeouts and had a hit and two RBIs, Rodney Sabbe pitched two scoreless innings, Zach Nagy was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Rider Gordon and Owen Muench each went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and David Laranjo was 1 for 1 with two RBIs to lead Royal (11-4, 6-2) to an 8-3 victory over Moorpark in a Coastal Canyon League game. Rylan Stillwagon had a double and an RBI, Taylor Busch was 2 for 4, and Zack Serup was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Musketeers (12-8, 3-3).
Grayson Paul allowed just two hits while striking out six in four scoreless innings to earn the win, Cole Miller allowed five hits and a run with four strikeouts in three innings, Tyler Field was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, Cade Falsken went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI, Evan Needham finished 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI, and Andrew Vegas was 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Newbury Park (13-5) to a 7-1 victory over La Quinta at the Paso Robles Spring Break Tournament.
Tyler Shulman went 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Mason Shulman was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Desi Gonzalez went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Nate Castellon finished 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Calabasas (15-5, 5-3) to an 11-7 win over Agoura in a Marmonte League game. Ethan Kearney went 3 for 4, Will Michelman was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, Braden Feli was 1 for 4 with two RBIs, and Myles Kallinger had a hit and two walks for the Chargers (7-11, 2-6).
Jathan Magana allowed just three hits while striking out 11 in 6.2 innings and was 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, Drew Portugal went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a stolen base, and Javier Contreras was 2 for 4 with a stolen base to lead Fillmore (8-10, 6-7) to a 5-1 victory over Nordhoff in a Citrus Coast League game. Benjamin Fabbian was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Riley Dalto went 2 for 2 for the Rangers (6-10-1, 5-9-1).
SOFTBALL
Jasmine Reyes pitched a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts, Sarah Coccillos went 3 for 4 with a double, and Jadalynn Sovey and Amaya Smith each had a double to lead Rio Mesa (18-1-1, 9-0) to a 3-0 win over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League game,
Alizsa Rosas finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Alexis Haros was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Danica Dykstra went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and Baylany Magana earned the save in the circle to lead Oxnard (8-4, 6-1) to a 9-7 victory over Ventura in a Channel League game. Siena Lightcap was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Yaya Landeros and Sammi Barnard each went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Cougars (6-8, 3-4).
Justice Flores and Angelina Apodaca each hit two-run home runs, Isabella Fortini was 2 for 2 with two stolen bases, Sammie Soto went 1 for 3 with a double, Ainsley Berlingeri struck out eight in five scoreless innings, and Ava Tepesano pitched two scoreless innings to lead Camarillo (12-2) to a 7-0 victory over Burbank in a nonleague game.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
Moorpark defeated Oak Park 110-21 to finish 4-0 in the Coastal Canyon League and clinch the league championship. Tyler Zeedik won the 100 (11.12) and 200 (22.81). Joseph Moore won the 400 (53.47). Tyler Smith won the 800 (2:03.98). Hunter Lee won the 1,600 (4:34.70). Thomas White won the 3,200 (10:08.13). Alex Vincelette won the 110 hurdles (17.68) and 300 hurdles (42.69). Kade Larson won the shot put (45-02.75) and discus (151-0). Victor Ezike won the high jump (5-10). Matthew Pryor won the pole vault (11-0). Carson Zeedik won the long jump (20-10.75). Connor Smith won the triple jump (38-06.50).
Camarillo defeated host Simi Valley 71-61 in a Coastal Canyon League meet. For Camarillo, Diego Montag won the 1,600 (4:32.31). Bennett Pauli won the 110 hurdles (16.21). Griffin Addison won the 400 (52.30). Trevor Stimpson won the 800 (2:00.88). Michael Lennox won the 3,200 (9:59.43). Jelani Kawaichi won the triple jump (40-06.75). For Simi Valley, Jaelon Barbarin won the 100 (10.66) and 200 (21.82). Seth Knight won the 300 hurdles (45.17). Jayden Clarke won the high jump (5-10). Nicholas Maxon won the pole vault (12-02). Evan Williams won the long jump (19-00.50). Kevin Ilano won the shot put (40-04) and discus (116-07).
Ventura defeated Oxnard 86-41 and Dos Pueblos 112-14 and Oxnard defeated Dos Pueblos 90-36 in a Channel League tri-meet at Ventura High. For Ventura, Lucas Malone won the 1,600 (4:35.85). Azure Willard won the 110 hurdles (16.24). Anthony Fasthorse won the 800 (1:59.29). Luke Carnaghe won the 300 hurdles (41.88). Michael Torres won the 3,200 (9:50.02). Ellie Toumeh won the long jump (21-00.75) and triple jump (43-09). Wyatt Schrader won the shot put (51-08) and discus (152-0). For Oxnard, Caleb Marzette won the 100 (11.05). Camren Harris won the 200 (22.69). Jamell Pace won the high jump (5-08).
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Moorpark defeated Oak Park 73-53 in a Coastal Canyon League meet. For Moorpark, Kristin Cole won the 400 (62.74). Alexandra Dougherty won the 100 hurdles (18.32) and 300 hurdles (54.75). Marlee Schauer won the shot put (24-06.25). Ella Heathcote won the high jump (4-10). Madeleine Waters won the pole vault (7-0) and triple jump (31-01.25). For Oak Park, Kymara Brodie won the 100 (12.19) and the 200 (25.32). Katarina Modrzejewski won the 800 (2:32.35) and 1,600 (5:25.51). Kavya Sreeraj won the 3,200 (13:24.26). McKenna Brown won the discus (92-07). Emma Baskin won the long jump (15-0.75).
Camarillo defeated host Simi Valley 100.5-35.5 in a Coastal Canyon League meet. For Camarillo, Kimberly Willard won the 1,600 (5:25.39) and 3,200 (11:51.26). Maya Thayer won the 400 (1:02.48). Gianna Vazquez won the 800 (2:31.30). Alana Sugue won the pole vault (10-07). Monet Taylor won the long jump (15-05.25). Elle Anger won the triple jump (30-10). Trinity Tipton won the shot put (37-03) and discus (125-07). For Simi Valley, Annika Sorensen won the 100 hurdles (15.96) and 300 hurdles (50.42). Denver Mack-Reyes won the 100 (12.60). Rayven Hoilett won the 200 (26.48). Summer Nations won the high jump (5-0).
Ventura defeated Oxnard 81-46 and Dos Pueblos 109-18 and Oxnard defeated Dos Pueblos 83-43 in a Channel League tri-meet at Ventura High. For Ventura, Melanie True won the 800 (2:25.21) and 1,600 (5:10.61). Valentina Fakrogha won the 400 (59.42) and high jump (5-07). Donnea Prehn won the 300 hurdles (48.50). Isabella Di Silvestri won the triple jump (33-09.25). Livia Vertuchci won the discus (100-07.50). For Oxnard, Ali Medina won the 100 (12.81) and 200 (26.09). Brianna Torres won the 3,200 (11:48.49). Valeria Rodriguez won the long jump (15-06.50). Natalie Estrella won the shot put (35-05.50).
BOYS GOLF
Eli Bernardo and Tyler Lumpkin each shot a 73 to lead Simi Valley (6-3) to a 395-429 win over Moorpark in a Coastal Canyon League match at Simi Hills Golf Course. Kemper Wilson shot a 1-under 70 to earn medalist honors for the Musketeers.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Tyler Jorden had 17 assists and Sean Scampone finished with 11 kills for Foothill Tech (6-5, 4-5) in its 25-12, 25-16, 25-17 loss to Laguna Blanca in a Tri-Valley League match.
