Wednesday's Top Prep Performers: Oxnard boys win another PVL basketball title

Highlights from Wednesday in high school sports:

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Jacob Terrill scored 17 points, Dominik Contreras had 16 points and Dylan O’Neill finished with 14 points as Oxnard (19-4, 9-0) beat Pacifica 72-24 to clinch the Pacific View League championship. The Yellowjackets have won eight of the last 10 PVL titles.

  • Travis Valenzuela scored 20 points, Kayden Gonzales had 13 points, Luke Anestos had 10 points, Jack Rose had nine points, and AJ Monarres added eight points to lead Ventura (8-18, 5-5) to a 70-66 overtime win over rival Buena in a Pacific View League game. The Cougars finished the season by winning four of their last five games. Darin Cole scored a game-high 27 points, Zane Carter had 13 points and Blue Sierra had 12 points for the Bulldogs (12-14, 5-4).

  • O’Neil Drury finished with 22 points, five rebounds and four steals, Ethan Macias scored 15 points, Chris Alfaro had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Jacob Mora contributed nine points, six rebounds and two steals to lead second-place Rio Mesa (16-8, 7-2) to an 81-56 win over Channel Islands in a Pacific View League game. Matthew Gonzalez scored 18 points and Nazir Ivey had 10 points in the season finale for the Raiders (5-21, 2-9), who will move to the Citrus Coast League next season.

  • Beckham Rutherford scored 16 points, Cole Everett and Campbell Gaston each finished with 11 points, and Luke Wells had nine points as Nordhoff (16-8, 8-1) beat Hueneme 66-21 to clinch the Citrus Coast League championship.

  • Davian Gonzalez finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, Anthony Chessani scored 14 points, Jack Morris had 12 points, eight assists, six rebounds and five steals, and Isaac Weslow contributed eight points and six rebounds to lead Fillmore (9-11, 4-4) to a 58-42 victory over Santa Paula in a Citrus Coast League game. David Hernandez scored nine points and Andrew Mojica had eight points for the Cardinals (9-16, 5-5).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Miahnna Galvan finished with 19 points, three steals and two rebounds, Alexis “Chupies” Carillo had six points and four rebounds, Faith Stockton had five points, six steals, five assists and five rebounds, Arianna Duarte had five points, six steals, six rebounds and two assists, and Danielle Salazar added three points, five rebounds, five assists and two blocks to lead Citrus Coast League champion Santa Paula (15-10, 9-0) to a 47-21 win over Carpinteria.

  • Allie Rice scored 16 points, Jennifer Garcia had eight points and 14 rebounds, Kalea Maielua had eight points and five assists, Mariah Bernal had six points, and Ava Alonzo added five points to lead St. Bonaventure to a 48-22 victory over Cate in a Tri-Valley League game.

BOYS SOCCER

  • Gerardo Aguilar scored two goals and Andres Gutierrez had an assist as Hueneme (14-3-2, 8-0) defeated Carpinteria 2-0 to secure the outright Citrus Coast League title.

  • Christian Salcedo netted a hat trick with all three goals coming in the second half to lead Santa Paula (7-10-2, 4-1-1) to a 3-1 win over Fillmore in a Citrus Coast League match. Danny Sandoval scored a goal off an assist from Adrian Perez for the Flashes (7-10-2, 5-3-1).

  • James Ferry and Isaiah Reano scored goals to lead Simi Valley to a 2-1 victory over Royal in a Coastal Canyon League match.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Macie Baird headed home the winning goal from an assist from Emma Rale to lift Oak Park (7-5-3, 4-3-1) to a 1-0 overtime win over Moorpark as the Eagles clinched a playoff berth. The Musketeers (10-5-2, 6-2) finished the regular season as Coastal Canyon League champions.

  • Emma Biety, Dalia Abosaleem and Avery Neri scored goals and Jordan Oswald and Trinity Docter had assists as Royal (7-6-2, 6-2-1) beat Simi Valley 4-0 in a Coastal Canyon League match to clinch second place and qualify for the postseason.

  • Yaraby Herrera, Karla Alegria, Anisette Hernandez and Cynthia Ramos scored goals, Alexis Zavala, Jennifer Galindo and Yahaira Ramirez had assists, and Julissa Tobias posted the clean sheet in net as Santa Paula (13-4-2, 8-1) earned a 4-0 win over second-place Fillmore (6-5-4, 6-2-1) to clinch the Citrus Coast League championship.

GIRLS WATER POLO

  • Kate Miller scored five goals, Tijana Roncevic and Hannah Tully-Giles each had three goals, and Ida Tully-Giles made 10 saves as Villanova Prep defeated Cate 17-3 to finish unbeaten in the Tri-Valley League.

  • Brooke Ramirez, Izabel Magana, Zoe Morales, Esmeralda Gonzales, Marlen Salazar and Jamie Magana each had two goals as Santa Paula (9-17, 4-4) clinched a playoff berth with a 16-7 win over Fillmore in a Citrus Coast League game.
