Wednesday's Top Prep Performers: Santa Paula boys clinch Citrus Coast League soccer title

Highlights from Wednesday in high school sports:

BOYS SOCCER

  • Kevin Guerrero, AB Valdez, Christian Saucedo and Angel Mosqueda scored goals as Santa Paula clinched the Citrus Coast League championship with a 4-0 win over visiting Nordhoff. The Cardinals (11-5-2, 10-1) have lost just one of their last 14 matches since a 1-4 start to the season.

  • Hueneme (8-9-1, 6-6) kept itself in the playoff picture with a 6-3 win at Fillmore in a Citrus Coast League match. Diego Alcaraz, Jesus Angel Avila and Jared Ramos scored goals for the Flashes (9-8-4, 6-3-3).

  • Despite leading 2-0 at the half, Oxnard fell at Santa Barbara 3-2 in a Channel League match. Abraham Servin and Miguel Cabrera scored goals for the Yellowjackets (16-3-8, 9-2-3), who finished tied for second in league with Pacifica at 30 points apiece.

  • Pacifica (15-6-1, 10-4) conceded two set pieces in the first half in a 2-0 loss at Channel League champion San Marcos (14-1-3, 13-0-1).

  • Powered by sophomore Nate Lopez's second straight hat trick, Buena (13-11-3, 6-53) clinched a playoff berth with a wild 3-2 win at Rio Mesa in a Channel League match. Jason Maldonado and Tony Delgado scored goals, Carter Rosenbaum had two assists, Luis Gonzalez and Benieare Riley played well on defense, and Brandon Fuchs had a solid effort in his goalkeeping debut for the Spartans.

  • Henry Rose, Cristiano Alvarez, Antonio Martinez and Sam Kruft scored goals as Ventura finished its season with a 4-2 win over visiting Dos Pueblos in a Channel League match.

  • Senior Zack Harris scored all four goals — a penalty kick, a free kick, a header and a solo run — as Oak Park completed a perfect Coastal Canyon League season with a 4-1 win over Simi Valley. Nate Kapitz had an assist for the Eagles (16-1, 8-0).

  • Javi Castro and Felipe Quezada scored goals as Moorpark (9-7-3, 5-3) beat Camarillo 2-0 to finish second in the Coastal Canyon League.

  • Jeremy Larson scored his 19th goal and Jake Barrett had an assist as Grace Brethren (8-2-1, 7-0-1) completed an unbeaten Frontier League campaign with a 1-0 win over visiting Thacher.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Cynthia Ramos scored five goals, Anayah Davis had two goals and Yahaira Ramirez finished with four assists as Santa Paula clinched a share of the Citrus Coast League championship with a 7-0 win over Nordhoff. The Cardinals (14-1-1, 10-1) can clinch the title outright with a win or tie against Carpinteria on Thursday.

  • Victoria Pina and Karissa Terrazas scored goals and Fatima Alvarado and Ashley Hernandez had assists to lead Fillmore (11-7, 9-3) to a 2-0 win over Hueneme (8-6, 6-6) in a Citrus Coast League match.

  • Jazzy Moreno and Esja Moore scored goals and Kaitlyn Wright and Olivia Mobley had assists as Ventura came from behind to beat host Dos Pueblos 2-1 in a Channel League finale. Peyton Mendez posted her 11th shutout in goal as the Channel League champions finished the regular season at 18-4-1 overall and 11-2-1 in league.

  • Second-place Buena (12-5-1, 9-4-1) played Rio Mesa (9-9-5, 4-6-4) to a scoreless tie in a Channel League match. The Bulldogs are headed to the postseason. The CIF-SS pairings will be announced Saturday.

  • Jazmin Soto scored a goal from Bella Naranjo’s assist as third-place and playoff-bound Oxnard (9-10-1, 8-5-1) edged visiting Santa Barbara 1-0 in a Channel league match.

  • Valeria Lopez had a goal and an assist, Klarissa Melgoza, Michelle Monroy and Anahi Nieto scored goals, and Natalia Quezada had an assist as Pacifica routed visiting San Marcos 4-0 to clinch fourth place in the Pacific View League and secure a playoff berth.

  • Macie Baird scored on a free kick as Oak Park tied visiting Simi Valley 1-1 to finished third in the Coastal Canyon League.

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Marcos Ramirez hit a 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left in overtime to lift Oxnard to a 66-65 win over Buena as the Yellowjackets finished the unbeaten in the Channel League at 14-0. Dominik Contreras finished with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists, Reese Widerburg had 19 points and four assists, and Lukas Rea had eight points, five rebounds and a key block for Oxnard, which has won outright or shared league titles in 19 of the last 25 seasons and extended its league winning streak to 45 games. Josh Ullegue finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, Zane Carter had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Daniel Ortiz scored 14 points, Colin Guenther had seven points, and Luke Ortiz had six points and three blocks for the Cougars (24-4, 11-3), who finished second in league and qualified for the CIF-SS playoffs. Basketball pairings will be announced Sunday.

  • Caleb Gorin scored 13 points, Jack Rose had nine points, Jake Auster and Joshua Woodworth each had eight points, Finn Fancher had seven points, Cooper Conrad, Caleb Sebek and Travis Valenzuela each had six points, Mac Hannah had four points, and Nick Anter added two points as Ventura ended its season with 80-69 overtime loss to Dos Pueblos in a Channel League game.

  • Sergio Ornelas had 12 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks, Alex Tamayo finished with 10 points and two steals, and Budder Aina added six points and four rebounds as Pacifica (7-21, 1-13) ended its season with a 70-48 loss to Santa Barbara in a Channel League game. Luke Zuffelato led the Dons (16-11, 10-3) with 18 points.

  • Ethan Macias scored 19 points, David Williams had 11 points, Rodney Adams Jr. had eight points, and Kamden Kiech added seven points for Rio Mesa (14-14, 7-7) in its 62-58 loss to San Marcos in a Channel League finale.

  • Dylan Benner scored 18 points, senior Nico Macias had 17 points and five assists, Jeremy Goodcase had seven points, senior Nate Loomis had six points and seven rebounds, Isaiah Marin had six points, senior Joe Scanlon had four points and nine rebounds, and senior Sebastian Cipres grabbed four rebounds as Tri-Valley League champion St. Bonaventure (19-8, 7-1) ended its regular season with a 72-46 victory over Santa Clara on Senior Night.

  • Gavin Day finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, Ethan Day had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists, Jomari Ong had nine points and four rebounds, and Brady Crawford added eight points and seven rebounds as Villanova Prep (7-15, 4-3) defeated Laguna Blanca 55-43 to clinch a berth into the CIF-SS playoffs. The Wildcats will play Foothill Tech on Friday to determine second place in the Frontier League.

  • Foothill Tech defeated Grace Brethren 58-54 to clinch a CIF-SS playoff berth. The Dragons (12-14, 4-3) will play Villanova Prep on Friday to determine second place in the Frontier League.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Anais Hernandez had 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals, Haven Ramirez finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three blocks, Mister Nelson had 10 points and six rebounds, Mimi Moon had nine points, nine assists, four rebounds and four steals, and Mykah Johnson added five points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists to lead Pacifica (17-8, 8-4) to a 53-29 win over Santa Barbara in a Channel League game.

GIRLS WATER POLO

  • Oaks Christian defeated Westlake 20-2 to finish unbeaten in Marmonte League at 6-0.

  • Cate Daland scored five goals and had a save to lead Agoura to a 21-2 win over Calabasas in a Marmonte League game.

  • Buena lost to Santa Barbara 15-3 and defeated Oxnard 14-6 at the Channel League Championships. In the first game, Addison Bruno had a goal and four steals and Kendall Nagaoka and Devin Varela scored goals. In the second game, Gabrielle Swaim finished with four goals and a steal, Mikayla Salas had three goals and four steals, Isabella Prewitt had three goals and two steals, Bruno had two goals and four steals, Jackie Starr had two goals and three steals, Nagaoka had a goal, and goalie Kathryn Salazar had 15 blocks and two steals.

  • Lindsey Ramirez finished with three goals, five steals, and three assists and Deanna Soto had three goals, an assist and a steal as Santa Paula (14-12, 4-4) defeated Hueneme 10-3 to clinch third place in the Citrus Coast League and postseason berth.
