Wednesday's Top Prep Performers from six spring sports

Highlights from Wednesday in high school spring sports:

BASEBALL

  • Wylan Nelson allowed just one run while striking out nine in six innings and went 2 for 3 with a double at the plate, Josh Woodworth had a double and two RBIs, Dash Lopez was 3 for 4 with a double, Jon Gurrola went 1 for 1 with two RBIs, and Finn Hoover was 1 for 3 with an RBI to lead Ventura (8-12, 2-6) to a 6-2 win over Pacifica in a Channel League game.

  • Tyler Field went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Jaden Mack was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, and Luke Medhurst had a double and an RBI to lead Newbury Park (11-5, 5-3) to a 6-5 win over Thousand Oaks in a key Marmonte League game. Tommy Mueller was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Grant Rodriguez went 2 for 4, Brady Francisco hit a solo homer, and Cade Miller had a hit and two RBIs for the Lancers (6-12, 2-6).

  • Joseph Steventon pitched a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts and one walk, Finley Buckner went 2 for 4 with two doubles, Jack Laubacher had a double and two RBIs, James Latshaw had a hit and two RBIs, and Jaden Onaca had two RBIs to lead Oaks Christian (9-6, 5-3) to a 6-0 victory over Westlake in a key Marmonte League game. Kaden Youmans went 2 for 3 to lead the Warriors (11-6, 5-3).

  • Bryce Zavala allowed two runs on three hits while striking out 10 in a complete-game effort and was 2 for 4 at the plate, Alex Tobias hit his third homer of the season, Julian Perales was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, Timmy Alvarez went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Ruben Venegas was 2 for 3 to lead Santa Paula (13-5, 10-1) to a 6-2 victory over Hueneme in a Citrus Coast League game. Luis Cervantes was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Vikings.

  • Nate Castellon was 2 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs, Phoenix Call went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and an RBI, Will Stubington finished 3 for 3 with an RBI, Sean Sims was 1 for 2 with three RBIs, and Brandon Hoffman had a hit and an RBI to lead Calabasas to an 11-4 win over West Ranch in a nonleague game.

  • Nate Navarro had a triple and an RBI, Happy Edwards went 2 for 3, Taylor Busch, Leon Chavez and Robbie Perez each had a hit and an RBI, and Cameron Johnson allowed three runs in five innings for Moorpark (12-6) in its 5-4 loss to Paraclete in a nonleague game.

SOFTBALL

  • Jasmine Reyes pitched a two-hit, five-inning shutout with nine strikeouts and went 4 for 4 with two RBIs at the plate, Jadalynn Sovey finished 4 for 4 with three doubles and two RBIs, Sarah Coccillos was 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs, Jocelyn Gomez was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Mariah Reyes went 2 for 3, and Mariana Palazuelos had a double to lead Rio Mesa (16-1-1, 7-0) to a 10-0 win over Buena in a Channel League game. Rylee Segovia and Jordan Gonzalez had hits for the Bulldogs.

  • Rylee McCoy hit a two-run home run, Anahi Arreola was 2 for 4 with a solo homer, Ilove’a Brittingham went 1 for 2 with a solo homer, Justine Lambert finished 2 for 4, Terrianna Kelley had a hit and an RBI, and Emelia Davis allowed three hits while striking out seven in five innings to lead unbeaten Oaks Christian (16-0-1, 11-0) to a 5-2 victory over Westlake in a Marmonte League game. Kaylee Clarkson hit a solo homer and Grace Roskowick had a double and an RBI for the Warriors (16-4-1, 7-3-1).

  • Newbury Park defeated Thousand Oaks 3-0 in a Marmonte League game.

  • Mrdah Murali went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Yadira Montes was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Emma Henderson had a double and an RBI, and Kendall Diederich didn't allow an earned run in a complete-game effort in the circle to lead Royal to a 5-1 victory over Burbank in a nonleague game.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

  • Moorpark, Simi Valley and Royal competed in a Coastal Canyon League tri-meet. For Moorpark, Alex Vincelette won the 110 hurdles (17.64) and 300 hurdles (42.83). Kade Larson won the shot put (50-04) and discus (151-03). Carson Zeedik won the long jump (20-06.50). For Simi Valley, Jaelon Barbarin won the 100 (10.66) and 200 (21.99). Thaddeaus Ek won the 400 (53.19). Jayden Clarke won the high jump (6-0). Nicholas Maxon won the pole vault (12-08). Evan Williams won the triple jump (37-06.50). For Royal, Asher Lee won the 800 (2:03.78) and 1,600 (4:26.09). Jonah Bazerkanian won the 3,200 (9:50.26).

  • Santa Clara, Santa Paula, La Reina and Newbury Park Adventist competed in a four-team meet. For Santa Paula, Diego Rodriguez won the 1,600 (4:39.82). Rodrigo Mendez won the 110 hurdles (20.10) and 300 hurdles (51.48). Arturo Alcaraz won the shot put (41-09) and discus (114-04). Nathan Kendricks won the long jump (17-07.75). Isaac Rabago won the triple jump (37-0). For Santa Clara, Makaio Thompson won the 100 (11.20) and 200 (22.98). Tomas Guerra won the 400 (58.83). Richard Palato won the high jump (5-02). For Newbury Park Adventist, Ryan Rosaasen won the 800 (2:02.62).

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

  • Moorpark, Simi Valley and Royal competed in a Coastal Canyon League tri-meet. For Simi Valley, Denver Mack-Reyes won the 100 (12.57). Caitlin Gonzalez won the 200 (25.95) and 400 (61.18). Annika Sorensen won the 100 hurdles (16.08) and 300 hurdles (51.05). Abigail Degnan won the shot put (29-10). Madison Reeder won the discus (101-06). Summer Nations won the high jump (5-0). For Royal, Leanna Olivas won the 800 (2:36.20). Ava Hermansen won the pole vault (9-07). Quincie Richards won the long jump (16-02) and triple jump (35-05). For Moorpark, Kristen Gibbel won the 1,600 (5:38.80) and 3,200 (12:02.67).

  • Santa Clara, Santa Paula, La Reina and Newbury Park Adventist competed in a four-team meet. For Santa Paula, Lindsey Ramirez won the 200 (27.97) and 1,600 (5:44.02). Lisset Magana won the 400 (1:02.58) and set a school record in the triple jump (34-04). Sofia Mancilla won the 800 (2:57.19). Miahnna Galvan won the 100 hurdles (18.61) and 300 hurdles (57.19). Kaylee Reidmiller won the shot put (23-10) and discus (66-04). Yaraby Herrera won the long jump (15-04). For Newbury Park Adventist, Jillian Dougherty won the 100 (13.76) and high jump (4-08).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

  • Logan Oliverson finished with 19 kills and two blocks, Jacob Ritchie had six kills and two blocks, Caleb Eschenberg had seven kills and three blocks, Houston Hull had 10 kills, two blocks and ace, Parker Knupp had nine kills and four blocks, and Nolan Higa had five kills and 42 assists to lead Newbury Park (16-8, 8-1) to a 19-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-14 win over Westlake in a Marmonte League match.

GIRLS LACROSSE

  • Junior Reagan Laubner scored seven goals and reached the 100-goal milestone for her career, Lindsay O’Toole finished with five goals, Micah Shin had four goals and three assists, Charlotte Semer had two goals, and Elliana Dorsi added a goal and an assist to lead Newbury Park (9-3, 3-1) to a 19-6 victory over Oaks Christian in a Marmonte League game.

BOYS SWIMMING

  • Villanova Prep, La Reina, Laguna Blanca, Bishop Diego, and Santa Clara competed in a Tri-Valley League meet. For Villanova Prep, James Keyser won the 100 butterfly (1:03.68) and 200 freestyle (1:58.39). Luigi Travi won the 50 freestyle (23.84) and 100 backstroke (1:00.04).

GIRLS SWIMMING

  • Villanova Prep, La Reina, Laguna Blanca, Bishop Diego, and Santa Clara competed in a Tri-Valley League meet. For Villanova Prep, Eva Tully-Giles won the 200 freestyle (2:22.18) and 500 freestyle (6:13.31). Hannah Tully-Giles won the 50 freestyle (27.83) and Candela Basoco won the 100 freestyle (1:06.01).
