Week 1 Athlete of the Week Winner: Kade Spahr and Peter Moore tie

Week one athlete of the week voting concluded with a first for the Daily News, a tie in week one of the spring sports season coverage. The weekly Athlete of the Week features nominated athletes from around the County. Athlete nominations can be submitted every Sunday by 9:00 p.m. Athlete of the Week polls run between Monday and Wednesday each week. Athlete nominations that are submitted will be automatically included in the final poll.

Week 1 Winners: Kade Spahr of Pittsford and Peter Moore of Hillsdale

Pittsford senior pitcher Kade Spahr and Hillsdale senior boys track member Peter Moore tied for the week one athlete of the week honor in the first voting poll of the 2022-23 spring sports season.

Both athletes share the honor, and both were nominated after standout week one performances for their teams.

Kade Spahr was nominated after recording 30 strikeouts in week one. He pitched a no-hitter game in a win over Athens High School and then followed it up with another pitching win in game two of the doubleheader. He also scored a total of eight runs for the Wildcats.

Peter Moore was nominated after breaking his personal record long jump numbers twice in the same week. The first new PR gave him a second-place finish in their home meet. He then broke his PR to take first place at Gull Lake. The senior had a final jump distance of 20-feet-11. The senior also helped the 4x200-meter relay team take first place at Gull Lake.

Honorable Mentions

  • Jena Fellabaum - Waldron Softball: Jena Fellabaum recorded two home runs for the Spartans in week one. The pitcher also had 14 strikeouts in week one, helping her team win two games against North Adams-Jerome.

  • Tayshawn Bester - Reading: Ranger Tayshawn Bester helped the Reading boys track team take first place in their inaugural meet of the 2022-23 season. Bester took first place in both hurdle events. He also took first in the high jump and long jump. He set a new long jump PR of 19 feet-7.

  • Lyra Nichols - Jonesville Softball: Jonesville comet pitcher Lyra Nichols recorded over 30 strikeouts and helped win three games for Jonesville in week one. Nichols also had a home run against Blissfield.
