HOLLISTON 33, Foxborough 7: Junior running back Devin Harding ran 21 times for 114 yards and two TDs while also pulling in four catches for 63 yards as the visiting Panthers rolled past the non-league host Warriors on opening night.

HOPKINTON 16, Wayland 6: Host Wayland scored on its first possession of the game when Al Young reached the end zone on a 5-yard run, but Hopkinton shut out the Warriors the rest of the way in a non-league season opener.

“The first score really meant nothing to us,” said Hopkinton’s Joe Carrazza, who scored his team’s first touchdown, a 40-yard run. “We knew we were a different team than last year. We just needed to keep pushing our foot on the gas. It ended up being a big win for us.”

The Warriors finished off a 64-yard drive with the help of two passes from quarterback Ulysses Lopez-King on the game’s opening drive. The senior connected with Nathan Mazokopos for 30 yards before hitting Mehki Walker to convert a fourth-down play inside Hopkinton’s 10-yard line.

Young’s scamper down the left sideline quickly put Wayland on the board.

“It was a good mood-booster for everyone,” said Mazokopos of the opening touchdown. “It got the jitters out. Most of our team has never really played a full varsity game under the lights. It got everybody off the edge a little bit.”

After Carrazza’s long run tied the score, Wayland blocked the extra-point attempt. The Hillers went ahead to stay when Avery Ravech kicked a short field goal as time expired in the first half to make it 9-6.

The lone score of the second half came on Hopkinton quarterback Robert Litscher’s 1-yard touchdown toss to a wide open Sam Pantera on fourth down in the third quarter.

MEDFIELD 14, Medway 13: The host Warriors escaped with the Tri-Valley win after blocking what would have been the game-tying extra point from the Mustangs. For Medfield, all the scoring came in the second quarter, as Nick Hasapidis threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Nick Evans and Will Griffin had a 40-yard interception return for a TD to go into the half up 14-0.

Valley Tech opened the game with a 12-play drive to the St. Bernard's 2-yard line. But St. Bernard's defense stiffened and aided by a false start managed to turn the Beavers over on downs.

WALPOLE 56, Framingham 0: The Flyers had a tough go of it in coach David Wright's opener, as the host Timberwolves scored 42 first-half points on their way to the convincing win. Walpole senior quarterback Corey Kilroy went 6-for-6 passing for 150 yards and three touchdowns.

BELLINGHAM 28, Blackstone-Millville/Hopedale 16: Junior captain Corey Perkins rushed for two touchdowns while junior QB Dasha Domercant also added two scores in a comeback win for Bellingham over BMR/Hopedale.

MILLIS 6, Tri-County: Senior quarterback Nick Almeida’s 40-yard run late in the fourth quarter lifted the Mohawks in a game filled with missed red zone opportunities, penalties and cramps.

Both teams had chances inside the 10-yard line during the second half, but each was thwarted. Millis also recovered a second-quarter fumble at its 2-yard line.

Tri-County had an opportunity to score with six minutes left when Keegan Walker caught a pass at the Millis 11, but a penalty wiped out the play.

The Mohawks (1-0) forced a punt just before Almeida, who left the game briefly due to a leg cramp, scored the game’s only points on an 88-degree afternoon.

“Afternoon game, the sun’s the highest in the sky. It was just hitting us all game long,” Almeida said. “All of our practices, they’ve all been sunny. We got the puking out of the way in the offseason. But the cramping hit a lot of guys on both teams pretty hard. But we fought through it and we’re very fortunate to come out with a win.”

Almeida described his view on the winning points that came with 2:19 left in the game.

“It was a rollout and I saw a hole and just cut upfield and my tight end (TJ Daniel) did a great job blocking. I just cut outside and there was no one there. All I saw was green, so I took it.”

The Cougars (0-1) nearly went ahead after Dylan Sullivan’s runs for 25 and 30 yards put his team at the Millis 10 at the end of the third quarter. On fourth down from the 8, however, Dylan Heredia stopped Aidan Weeman in the backfield to end the threat.

“I thought we were going to go into overtime, to be honest with you,” said Millis coach Bob Martellio. “I think it’s safe to say that both teams made a lot of mental mistakes and turnovers, and on a hot day like this, your mental toughness has to come through and we were just fortunate enough to make one big play.”

NIPMUC 41, St. Paul 18: Christian Morrice carried nine times for 90 yards and three touchdowns, while Brady Karmelek caught two touchdown passes as the host Warriors opened with a win over the Knights. "The kids played hard, and our defense was great," said Nipmuc coach Dave Tupper.
