Friday brings Week 10 of the high school football regular season to Brevard County, and that brings games of significance.

While every game has meaning to the teams and fans, most of the games in the county will have significance of some area-wide interest this week. Here is a glance at what Week 10 has to offer here:

Rivalry games

Titusville-Astronaut is Friday, and this could be an entertaining one. Titusville has rebounded from a down streak, and the War Eagles have improved since a painful start. Not only did they start 0-4, but they were shut out in each of those games.

Holy Trinity will play at MCC with a dual purpose. First, the two are longtime archrivals. Second, the Tigers are trying to win District 4-1S, which they will do if they defeat the Hustlers and Father Lopez beats Halifax Academy.

Viera-Melbourne has been an intense rivalry for both schools, though the Bulldogs have already assured themselves of a District 11-4S championship.

District titles

There are other teams still pursuing their own championships. Rockledge hosts Eau Gallie at McLarty Stadium with 10-3S on the line. The Raiders are 3-0 in the league and can win it outright.

Both Cocoa and Palm Bay are 3-0 in District 12-2S. The Tigers are the road team but still the heavy favorite to keep rolling, having outscored local teams by a 222-3 margin.

A special homecoming

Merritt Island will recognize its 50th anniversary state championship team of 1972. Approximately 30 players from the team will attend the Friday night game against Satellite, and they will gather for an 11 a.m. meet-and-greet at Gators Dockside in Cape Canaveral on Saturday. Family and fans are invited.

Coaches Dwight Thomas, Gerald Hodgin and Lee Mace will be in attendance along with the all-state backfield of Jimmy Black, Leon Bright and Waldo Williams.

As for the game on the field, it's a meeting between teams coached by last year's Mustangs state runner-up coordinators. Defensive coordinator Brian Helton took over the Scorpions, while offensive coordinator Tyler Murray moved up to run the Merritt Island program.
