Week 10 Race To The Finish: NJSIAA Sectional Championships
Friday and Saturday’s sectional championships for GMC and Skyland teams were at a variety of venues around the state. I was able to attend Friday’s NJSIAA Central Groups 2 and 3 at Middletown North.
Unfortunately, I did not to make it to Howell on Saturday morning for the Central Groups 1 and 4 finale, as my vehicle would not allow me the opportunity to complete the run at 6:30 am while en route to Rebel Country.
The Group 2 teams I saw Friday from our coverage area, in no specific order, included Metuchen, Voorhees, Carteret, Spotswood, Bound Brook and Delaware Valley. Group 3 teams hailed from Somerville and J.F. Kennedy Iselin.
South Brunswick boys followed their coach’s mantra of, “We run, We jump, We throw” by capturing the Central Group 4 sectional title in consecutive years. East Brunswick was the runner-up.
The Hillsborough girls squeaked by Skyland Conference rival Montgomery 72-66 to bring home the Central Group 4 hardware.
Metuchen girls dominated the distance runs as expected, however, they couldn’t catch Rumson-Fair Haven who took the boys and girls Central Group 2 titles. Voorhees boys finished a distant second.
