Week 2 Cape Cod high school football scores and highlights

The high school football season kicked off with a bang last week.

Every Cape Cod high school football team is in action this week except for St. John Paul II. Monomoy and Bourne kicked off a busy week of football on Thursday night. The Sharks improved to 2-0 with a rousing win over Atlantis Charter while Bourne dropped to 1-1.

Barnstable, which lost to Brockton last week, is back again with another tough opponent in Reading Memorial. Sandwich and Nauset also have home games on Friday.

This week's only matchup between Cape teams is on Saturday, as Nantucket hosts Mashpee.

Thursday, Sept. 15

Monomoy 49, Atlantis Charter 6: Jake Vagenas threw a pair of touchdowns and threw another as the Sharks improved to 2-0. Dillon Chapman ran for two TDs. Reign Stephenson and Jedidiah Zimmerman both ran for one score.

South Shore 48, Bourne 27: Craig Hill ran for 148 yards, including a 65-yard TD, in the loss for the Canalmen (1-1). Ty Kelley threw a 23-yard TD pass to his younger brother, Drew.

Friday, Sept. 16

Reading Memorial 37, Barnstable 22: The Red Hawks drop to 0-2. After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, Barnstable took a 22-21 lead on Hiago Salamo's 5-yard TD run in the third quarter (Salamo also added the 2-point conversion). Darren Thomas (42 yards) and Tajardo France (10) also had TD runs.

Sandwich 27, Carver 14: Brady Carroll ran for three TDs (80, 3, 18 yards) and threw a 6-yard TD pass to Connor Stack for the Blue Knights (1-1).

Nauset 21, East Bridgewater 14: The win is the first for coach Jesse Penno. Logan Daniels ran for a pair of TDs for the Warriors (1-1) while Dillon White threw a 32-yard TD pass to Isaiah Robinson. Evan Archer sealed the win with a late interception.

Dennis-Yarmouth 28, Boston English 16: Alex Sheffield White (22 carries, 246 yards three TDs) starred for the Dolphins (1-1). Jayden Barber threw a 40-yard TD pass to Jake Bohlin to round out the D-Y scoring.

Old Colony 32, Cape Tech 0: The Crusaders fell to 0-2.

Norwood 26, Falmouth 20 (OT): The Clippers lost a heartbreaker in overtime. Elijah Gomes ran for 40 yards and a TD, Cole Spellman had a kick return TD and Colin Govoni finished with 83yds rushing for Falmouth (1-1).

Saturday, Sept. 17

Bristol Plymouth 22, Upper Cape 8: The Rams fall to 0-2.

Salem 30, Martha's Vineyard 6: The Vineyarders fall to 0-2.

Mashpee 29, Nantucket 28: The Falcons improved to 2-0 while the Whalers drop to 0-2.
