Week 2 high school football roundup: Rockledge rolls again, Satellite, Palm Bay, EG also 2-0

Rockledge posted a second win over a team getting votes in the USA Today Florida Network rankings, and again in convincing fashion.

Satellite and Palm Bay also improved to 2-0, following Eau Gallie, which won on Thursday.

Rockledge 45, Doral Academy 7

The Raiders scored repeatedly on big plays in a second runaway victory at McLarty Stadium to open the season.

Jamarion Stephens' 65-yard touchdown run at 1:54 of the first quarter gave the home team a 17-0 lead, and Rios Prude ran back a kickoff 70 yards to make it 24-7 early in the second.

Andreas Foreman and Elijah Lowder each returned interceptions for scores, Lowder going 50 yards with his in the final minute before halftime. That gave the Raiders firm control at 38-7.

Rockledge hosts Viera on Friday.

Satellite 21, Viera 7

All the work was done in close in this one, Miles Hinkel, Dylan Vigliotti and Akai Jones scoring on runs of 2, 1 and 1 yard, respectively.

Judah Knight scored the Hawks' first touchdown of the season in the final two minutes on a run from the 1.

Satellite opens its home season against Melbourne next, and the Hawks visit Rockledge at McLarty Stadium.

Bayside 50, Holy Trinity 14

The Bears broke open a one-point game with a pair of third-quarter touchdowns and went to even their record at 1-1.

Kaiden Brabham threw touchdown passes to Michael Parkes for 14 yards and Isaiah Cordero for 25. Trevion Butler returned a punt 55 yards for a score in the fourth.

It was the home opener for the Tigers, who opened with a win at Orangewood Christian last week.

Bayside visits Ft. Pierce Central in Week 3, and Holy Trinity plays at Space Coast.

Cocoa Beach 56, Berean Christian 0

The Minutemen got their first win of the season in two tries with the shutout.

Alan Bailey ran for three scores, and Brennan Berk got the game going with a punt return for a touchdown two minutes into the game. Mitchell McNeeley scored on a blocked punt.

Cocoa Beach travels to Pierson to play Taylor next.

Palm Bay 21, Heritage 8

The visiting Panthers took a late one-point lead in the fourth quarter on a safety after the Pirates had led for almost 39 minutes, but Palm Bay scored twice in the final minute to improve to 2-0.

Alex Petite closed it out with a 40-yard interception return with 43.6 seconds on the clock.

One minute into the second quarter, Brayden Cook caught the first of two Jayden Mobley touchdown passes, and the Pirates maintained their 7-0 lead until a Tayshawn Benson 2-yard run a minute into the fourth.

Heritage visits Centennial and Palm Bay visits Harmony in Week 3.

Melbourne 30, Merritt Island 12

The home team's defense stymied the visiting Mustangs, including a Nate Jennings recovery of a first-quarter fumble in the end zone that made it a two-score game.

Hunter Turner threw a pair of touchdown passes, including one that went 80 yards to Frankie Santiago.

Melbourne briefly lost control of the game in the final minutes when the visitors blocked a punt and recovered it at the 5. The Mustangs drew within 10 when quarterback Yaseen DeReese kept from there. The Mustangs then recovered an onside kick, but Jalen Clarke intercepted a pass to stop the threat.

Merritt Island visits Astronaut next, while Melbourne travels to Satellite.

Space Coast 46, MCC 0

A 44-yard interception return for a touchdown by Brandon Wiggins late in the second period gave the visiting Vipers a two-score lead they would not relinquish.

Jovan McKinney scored the first points on a 6-yard run as the opening period expired. McKinney later added a 90-yard kick return for a touchdown, and the Vipers also scored on a blocked punt.

Space Coast opens its home season next week against Holy Trinity, and MCC hosts Windermere Prep.

Eau Gallie 55, Liberty 0

On Thursday night, the Commodores traveled to Kissimmee and won their second in a row to start the regular season, still not allowing a point.

Baker Alvarez, Robert Stafford and Amarion Cooper caught touchdown passes from Mari Crooms. Delonte Williams and Tay Welch each ran for a couple of scores.

Eau Gallie will open its home season against Bishop Moore on Friday.

Yulee 26, Titusville 21

The Terriers built a two-touchdown lead in the first quarter but were tied by halftime.

Visiting Yulee went ahead for good in the third.

Titusville, which was trying to start 2-0 for the first time since 2013, hosts Palm Bay on Sept. 16.

Sebastian River 42, Astronaut 0

The War Eagles struggled again at home, falling to 0-2.

Next week, Astronaut hosts Merritt Island.

Merritt Island Christian 35, Lake Mary Prep 0

Morgan Babb scored three touchdowns on the road, including an 86-yard run and a 71-yard interception return.

The Cougars play their second regular-season game Friday in Gainesville against Countryside Christian.

Master's 44, Calvary Chapel 0

The visitors from Vero Beach spoiled Calvary's second home game. The Eagles' next game is in two weeks at Merritt Island Christian.
