Week 3 HS Football Roundup: North Union's defense keys victory over Danville

RICHWOOD — Dalton Wilson and the rest of the Wildcats defense was a force Friday night at home in a meeting of unbeatens.

North Union scored a touchdown in every quarter to beat Danville 28-0.

The Wildcats held the Blue Devils (2-1) to 78 yards of total offense and five first downs, forcing four turnovers. Wilson paced the defense with nine tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. Tucker Wedding returned an interception 42 yards for a score.

On offense, North Union (3-0) rolled up 435 yards and 23 first downs. Cayden Lassister was 9 of 21 for 109 yards passing with a 53-yard TD strike to Lincoln Harrah, while Nolan Draper ran 14 times for 109 yards, and Owen Davis scored two TDs to finish with 83 yards on 19 carries.

Cardington 49, Crestline 0

The Pirates (1-2) scored all their points in the first half to beat Crestline (0-3). No other details were available.

Northmor 27, Bucyrus 7

There was no score at halftime, and Bucyrus (1-2) scored first midway through the third period before the Golden Knights (3-0) wrapped up the game with 27 unanswered points.

A.J. Bower threw a 32-yard touchdown to Jaxson Wenger and then ran in an 11-yard touchdown before Maxton Lower scored two TDs in the fourth period for Northmor. Lower finished with 142 yards on 31 carries, while Bower was 11 of 18 passing for 207 yards.

Northmor outgained Bucyrus 406-225 in total yards and converted 20 first downs to the Redmen's 12.

Whitehall-Yearling 20, Pleasant 13

After a blocked punt set up the Spartans inside the 30-yard line, Daxton Chase staked Pleasant to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. It remained 6-0 at halftime.

Whitehall's Andrew Jackson ran 54 yards for a touchdown and a 7-6 lead midway through the third period, but Pleasant answered with a 55-yard pass from Owen Lowry to Cadence Varner and capped the drive with a 24-yard TD strike from Lowry to Carver Kline with 2:16 left in the third.

With four seconds left in the quarter, Sekou Smith scored on a 5-yard run to give the Rams (2-1) a 14-13 lead. Pleasant (1-2) drove it to the Whitehall 12, but lost a fumble and moments later Jackson broke off an 87-yard TD run for the 20-13 edge. Pleasant tried to rally late, but lost possession at the Whitehall 28.

Crestview 37, Highland 17

The Cougars (3-0) held Highland (1-2) to 203 yards and eight first downs to pick up the win, putting up 267 yards and 14 first downs.

Dane Nauman led the Scots with 104 rushing yards on 19 carries, while Chandler Stevens chipped in with 63 yards on six tries. Kolton Stover was 5 of 11 passing for 89 yards, a touchdown and interception. Zach Schmidt caught two passes for 75 yards and the score. Ladon Hayes finished with 11 tackles for Highland as Nauman and Gavin Wiggand added nine each.

Tiffin Columbian 64, River Valley 28

The Vikings (2-1) led 6-0 in the first five minutes, but a minute later Tiffin Columbian (2-1) tied it and 20 seconds after that led 14-6. RV cut it to 14-12 midway through the first quarter, but the Tornadoes started to pull away, leading 28-12 early in the second quarter.
