Week 4 Brevard HS football roundup: Cocoa rolls, Rock and EG stay perfect

Rain again made its impact on Brevard County high school football on Week 4 of the 2022 season, but no games were cancelled or postponed. The area's two unbeatens, Eau Gallie and Rockledge, both moved to 4-0.

Cocoa got its first win, as did Melbourne Central Catholic.

Rockledge 42, Bayside 0

Jamarion Stephens scored on runs of 69 and 89 yards to get the Raiders going, later adding another running touchdown to give them firm control on the way to a fourth consecutive win and their first on the road.

All six Rockledge touchdowns came on the ground, with Jody Maynard, D.J. McCormick and Axzavian Alexander each scoring.

The Raiders were No. 2 in last week's USA Today Florida Network statewide poll for Class 3S.

Rockledge hosts Kissimmee Osceola next, while 2-2 Bayside plays at Satellite in two weeks.

Eau Gallie 49, Satellite 21

The Commodores took advantage of a couple of quick Scorpions turnovers after halftime to take control and then used its passing game to keep the home team from a comeback.

Mari Crooms scored the game's first touchdown on an 8-yard run, and his passes of 14 yards to Alvarez Baker and 18 to D.L. Hardison back-to-back in the second half turned a two-score game into a 43-14 Commodores lead.

Delvonte Williams scored three rushing touchdowns and Tay Welch broke one from 57 yards late in the game.

Achaia Jones scored twice on the ground for the Scorps, who dropped to 2-2. The home team converted on two fourth-down plays on its first scoring drive.

Eau Gallie, now 4-0, hosts Harmony next, and Satellite hosts Astronaut.

Palm Bay 24, Titusville 11

The Pirates used a pick-six to get on the score board late in the first after giving up three field goals on the road.

Palm Bay, now 3-1, rebounded from a loss to Harmony, which came in its first road trip. The Pirates added another interception for a score in the second half, and the Terriers scored on a safety.

Palm Bay hosts Ft. Pierce Central on Friday, and Titusville visits MCC.

Melbourne 37, Orange Park 21

The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 with a win in Jacksonville.

Hunter Turner scored twice rushing and threw scoring passes to Wesley Lambert and Frankie Santiago, the latter for 45 yards.

Melbourne hosts Cocoa in Week 5.

Cocoa 76, Space Coast 0

The Tigers left no doubt as they got their first win and opened District 12-2S competition.

Dayday Farmer returned the opening kickoff 90 yards to the end zone, giving the home team all they needed 17 seconds into the game. Blake Boda went on to throw seven touchdown passes, including two to Kyon Calhoun.

C.J. Bragg scored twice, once on the ground and once on a 30-yard pass from Boda. D'Andrevius Dorsey returned an interception 30 yards for another touchdown.

Cocoa (1-2) travels to Melbourne in Week 5, and Space Coast (1-2) hosts Tohopekaliga.

Merritt Island 25, Holy Trinity 10

The Mustangs spotted the Tigers a field goal and then roared back for a road win, improving to 2-1.

Yaseen DeReese threw a 47-yard scoring pass to Dallas Donahue to make it 15-3 in the second quarter.

Merritt Island faces Heritage in Week 5, and Holy Trinity (1-2) hosts Faith Christian.

MCC 17, Halifax Academy 8

The Hustlers picked up their first win of the season, playing in Ormond Beach.

Romeo McGlothin and Alex Westfield both scoring rushing touchdowns for MCC, and Andres Cespedes kicked a 25-yard field goal.

Melbourne Central Catholic (1-3) hosts Titusville next.

Oviedo 32, Heritage 22

The Panthers led at halfime, 14-12 but could not hold on.

A 20-point third quarter by Oviedo gave the visitors control of the game and dropped Heritage to 0-4.

Heritage visits Merritt Island on Friday

Bishop Moore 31, Viera 12

The Hawks were within a touchdown in the final minute before halftime but gave up a Riley Lewis touchdown pass with 15 seconds in the quarter. It was Lewis who scored the first two Hornets touchdowns, both on short runs.

Judah Knight caught a pass for 7 yards from Chase Cromartie, bringing Viera within a score at home late in the second. The two connected again in the game's final minute, this time from the 5.

Viera hosts Baker County and former coach Kevin Mays in Week 5. Bishop Moore, which lost at Eau Gallie last week, improved to 2-2.

Merritt Island Christian 44, Calvary Chapel 12

The Cougars won the meeting between Brevard County's two 8-man football programs.

Morgan Babb scored four times, including a second-quarter run of 70 yards. Nathaniel Buccio ran for two scores, his longest from 54 yards midway through the fourth.
