Week in review: Highlights from last week's action in basketball, soccer

Boys Basketball

Bartow 95, George Jenkins

Highlights: EJ Horton scored 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting to lead Bartow. He also dished out eight assists. Also for the Yellow Jackets, Nathaniel Smathers scored 19 points, Jayson Williams scored 18 points with 15 rebounds and six assists, and KJ Valentine added 15 points, five rebounds and seven assists. For Jenkins, Antonio Wright scored 20 points, Josiah Watford and Jaquan Cross each scored 13 points, and Maddox Harold scored 10 points.

Bartow 66, McKeel 42

Highlights: For Bartow, Daniel Thompson scored 15 points, and Nathaniel Smathers added 12 points. E.J. Horton scored seven points. Jayson Williams scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds. Demarion Smith four steals. For McKeel, Alex Sessms scored 10 points, and Billy Heddon scored eighth points.

Winter Haven 73, Plant City 60

Highlights: Isaac Celiscar scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals, and Jamie Phillips finished with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead Winter Haven. Kjei Parker scored 17 points with seven rebounds and four assists, Dylan James had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Kathleen 70, Lake Wales 64

Highlights: Malaki Broffit scored 25 points, and Jeremy Russell added 19 points.

Haines City 68, Lake Gibson 61

Highlights: Jesse Nimmo scored 23 points, Charles Wright scored 22 points and Lucson Jean added 15 points to lead Haines City. Trey Rodman scored 22 points, and Derrick McBride added 12 points.

Lakeland Christian 54, Keswick Christians 47

Highlights: Porter Stiles scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for LCS. Nate Carpter added nine points, and Trey Berry had four points and seven rebounds.

Santa Fe Catholic 70, Davenport 35

Highlights: The Crimson Hawks were led by seniors Zeq Munoz, who scored 17 points and Aiden Jones who scored 13 points. Also for Santa Fe, Tate Darner had nine points, Toby Lane eight points, and Hudson Dykhuizen eight points.

Bartow 66, McKeel 42

Highlights: Bartow surged to a 29-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Daniel Thompson led with 15 points, Nathanial Smathers had 12 points, EJ Horton had seven points, and Jayson Williams added six points and nine rebounds. For McKeel, Alex Sessoms led with 10 points.

Ridge Community 60, Lake Buena Vista 34

Highlights: For Ridge, J Jack led with 16 points, A Rogers scored 10 points, and Z McKray scored nine. TheBolts led 28-9 at halftime.

Jordan Christian Prep 82, Dunedin 42

Highlights: The Seahawks were led by Gary Nevarez with 17 points, five steals and four assists. William Reyes scored 23 points, Jickeson Masson scoped 10 points, Zay Mosley had eight points, 12 rebounds and five assists and Deangelo Parker added 8 points, 14 rebounds.

Jordan Christian Prep 82, Four Corners 43

Highlights: The Seahawks were led by Zay Mosley with 18 points 13 rebounds 8 assists, Deangelo Parker with 20 points and 15 rebounds, and William Reyes with 15 points.

Jordan Christian Prep 80, Avon Park 39

Highlights: William Reyes scored 20 points, Zay Mosley scored 19 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists, and Jickenson Masson added 12 points with six rebounds. Also for JCP, D'Angelo Parker pulled down 14 rebounds and added eight points and four blocks.

Victory Christian 86, Lake Gibson 42

Highlights: Tucker Fox led the Storm with 17 points, followed by Lorenzo Cason 15 points, Jordan Lanier 11 points, MJ McCalla 11 points and Mike Andino 10 points. The Storm connected on 14 3-pointers.

Santa Fe Catholic 73, St. Petersburg Catholic 29

Highlights: Sophomore Tate Darner led a balanced attack with 15 points. Senior Aiden Jones scored 11 points and Senior Zeq Munoz scored 9 points.

Lakeland 83, Lakewood Ranch 71

Highlights: Shannard Clower scored 20 wins to lead Lakeland Don Powell (15), Kaley Elmhorst (13), Vari Burton (11) and Jakoby Torrance (10) also scored in double figures.

Girls Basketball

George Jenkins 46, Auburndale 31

Highlights: Marykate Benham scored 13 points, Nellie Jackson scored 13 points, and Taylor Gibson added 12 points. Auburndale's Soliel Dejesus scored 13 points, and Jakiya Henry added nine points.

George Jenkins 49, McKeel 27

Highlights: The Eagles won their fifth consecutive game. Nellie Jackson led Jenkins with 22 points, Morgan Walsh finished with nine points, and Mary Kate Benham added eight points. For McKeel, Jessica Perrott scored 10 points

Lake Gibson 54, Haines City 39

Highlights: The Braves jumped out to a 15 -2 lead in the first quarter and ended the quarter leading 18-4 and ended the first half leading 31-11. Lake Gibson freshmen Guard Jamila Ray lead all scorers with 26 point. Senior forward Samari Wilson contributed 18 points. Haines City was led by Amori Thomas with 10 points.

Lake Gibson 74, Lake Wales 60

Highlights: Samari Wilson led Lake Gibson with 30 points, guard Jamila Ray scored 23 points and Taniya Brown contributed 13 points. Lake Wales was led by Jameria Robinson with 31 points. Tania Williams and Vanessa Squire each scored 11 points.

Lakeland Christian 41, Ridgeview Global 39

Highlights: Kylah Blough led the way with 16 points.  Eleni Katzaras chipped in eight points.

Boy soccer

Auburndale 3, Lake Gibson 2

Highlights: Cameron Payne scored on a penalty kick, and Marc Metellus and Danny Whiteside also scored. Chad Johnston and Eisler Garcia Barros each scored for Lake Gibson, and Andres Jerez, and Christopher Johnson had one assist each.

Auburndale 2, Winter Haven 0

Highlights: The Bloodhounds advanced to the Champions League semifinals against Lake Gibson next Friday at Mulberry. Marc G Metellus scored one goal with one assist, and Daniel Whiteside added a goal for Auburndale.

Lake Gibson 2, McKeel 1

Highlights: For Lake Gibson, Eisler Garcia Barros and Gregory Jackson II each scored. Christopher Johnson had two assists.

Girls soccer

Victory Christian 4, Keswick Christian 0

Highlights: Alaina Fountain had remarkable save after athletic save to keep the clean sheet. Nevaeh Lavely's first half goal, assisted by Gaby Figueroa was enough for the win. The Storm scored three more times in the second half. Nevaeh Haygood had a breakaway goal, followed by a nifty turn by Addie Lemmond, and finally a long chip from Figueroa.  Lemmond, Kaylie Whittenton and Amber Coquette broke up the Crusaders' offensive attacks.

Victory 7, Discovery 0

Highlights: Sylvia Rodriguez assisted on the Storm’s first two goals, the first by Gaby Figueroa and the second by Abby Tattrie. Rodriguez scored in the second half when Hayde Fullwood passed to Kaycee Hunter, wwho dropped it back to Rodriguez. Hunter and Tattrie then scored, and the scoring was capped by a powerful throw-in from Ava Schrock to a crashing Alaina Fountain, who poked it past the keeper.

Lakeland 8 Kathleen 0

Highlights: The Dreadnaughts got goals from Reese Hughes (3), Sofia Olivera (2), Cadence Jackson, Megan Volpe and Hilda Curtis, and assists from Sofia Olivera (2), Naomi Garner (2), Hilda Curtis, Bree Horvatin, Valeria Bautista and Leighton Wyatt. The Dreadnaughts allowed just one shot. For Kathleen, Lileigh Jensen stepped in the goal for her first varsity game and made 17 saves.

Lakeland Christian 3, Lakeland 0

Highlights: Carly Sabat scored one goal and had one assist to lead LCS. Lily Harrington and Mari Carr also scored one goal each, and Kaelyn Diaz, K.J. Straub and Ori Gotauco had one assist each.

West Orange 2, McKeel 1

Highlights: Makenzie Thornton score one goal, and Abygail Shannon had an assist for McKeel.

McKeel 9, Ridge Community 0

Highlights: Makenzie Thornton scored three goals, Kadence Rinaldo and Hayley Harper scored two goals each, and Chriss Avery and Angelina Wallin had one goal each.

Lake Wales 5, George Jenkins 0

Highlights: Lily Borders scored two goals with two assists, Bailey Dykes scored two goals with one assist, Breanna McQuillan scored one goal, and Guila Soares added two assists.

Winter Haven 2, Bartow 2

Highlights: Bailey Woodruff and Ty Campbell each scored, and Karsyn Burke and Delaney Jarrett had one assist each for Winter Haven. For Bartow, Kla Vegter and Faith Sebright scored, and Regan Parrish had an assist.

Ridge 3, Lake Gibson 2

Highlights: Ali Simonides and Jennifer Tagalos each scored one goal for the Braves. Elyssa Carris had an assist. Raven Henry recorded three saves.
