Weekday Religious Education celebrating another year of God's blessings, honors teacher

God has been so gracious in using this ministry to plant God’s Word into the hearts of all third and fourth-grade students with parental permission. Thank you all for making this possible through your support.

Weekday Religious Education is thankful for the opportunity to invite you to our annual WRE Banquet. Please join us as we celebrate another year of Kingdom growth at 6:30 p.m. May 26 at First United Methodist Church, 3150 Myra Lane, Martinsville.

We will also honor Mary Lee Wesner, a WRE teacher who has been sharing the Gospel for 46 years in Morgan County.

The impact of a faithful servant

I would like to share a little of Mary Lee’s life and the blessings she is to so many. Mrs. Wesner was married to Eugene Wesner for 35 years. Eugene has gone to be with the Lord and waits for his precious wife. He was a man of God who served faithfully at the United Methodist Church with his wife and children.

The couple had four children — Judy and Dan Workenteen, Cindy and Bob Dralle, Tim and Carol Wesner, and Kip and Debbie Wesner. Mary Lee would say she had eight children because she loved those in laws as her own. She has 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She is still active in the United Methodist church and has been for 49 years. She now resides with her daughter Cindy in Indianapolis but travels to Martinsville on Sunday for church.

Wesner's gift of teaching

Mary Lee was an excellent lead teacher. She had the gifts of music and teaching. She loved the children as her own. She is a positive person, always encouraging the teachers and student to trust the Lord.

She regularly reminded the teachers that this is God’s program, his children. He loves the children and will be faithful to keep this program available in Morgan County. He will always provide all that is needed. And he has. All these 68 years of ministry He has never failed to meet us at the point of our need.

Retirement is very difficult for Mary Lee at 93 years of age because of her love and commitment to the children of Morgan County. She has left those who serve in this ministry a wonderful example.

Opportunity to help

Pray that God will provide missionary teachers and helpers to continue planting God’s Word in the hearts of these children.

We need strong Christian leadership in this community and nation. It begins in the hearts of our children. Let us continue to partner with you to grow people of good character and biblical values that will be our leaders of tomorrow.

Again, we encourage you to join us May 26 as we give our thanks and appreciation to God for the spiritual growth of our children and community. There is no charge, we just want to Thank You!

The Banquet is open to all who are interested in the Morgan County Weekday Religious Education program in our community. Please help us keep WRE a avital part of our community.
