This weekend in Anchorage: Alaska Craft Brew & Barley Wine Festival, the Anchorage Folk Fest continues and more

Jan. 26—The Anchorage Folk Fest returns for its second weekend of performances and workshops, while there are plenty of other musical and stage options available in Anchorage as well. And the Alaska Craft Brew & Barley Wine Festival will offer two days for beer aficionados to sample some of the best the state has to offer.

Anchorage Folk Fest: Various times, Friday-Saturday-Sunday, Wendy Williamson Auditorium, 2533 Providence Drive

This week's special guest artist is The Bucking Mules, an old-time string band with members from Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The weekend will also include dozens of main stage performances by local musicians at Wendy Williamson and plenty of workshops all weekend long. The headliner will also play a barn dance on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Nave. Tickets are $15 and $5 for kids 13 and under.

Alaska Craft Brew & Barley Wine Festival: 6-10 p.m. Friday, noon-4 p.m., 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Dena'ina Center, 600 W. 7th Ave.

With three sessions available, there is plenty of time to taste the selections from more than 20 Alaska brewers plus some tasty options from the Lower 48 as well. The festival includes music from H3, Nothin' But Trouble and The Stack plus food vendors. Tickets are $65 for general admission, which include 15 sample tickets. The VIP tickets, which are limited in number to just 300 and include a number of perks and gifts, are $115. There are also designated driver tickets available for just $10.

The Cellar Dweller Standup Comedy Showcase: 8 p.m. Friday, The Broken Blender, 535 West 3rd Ave.

Rubber Ptarmigan and The Broken Blender present this showcase that includes talents like Matt Burgoon, Andy Feniger and others. Admission is $15 at the door.

Anchorage Symphony's Latin Vistas: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Atwood Concert Hall, 621 West 6th Ave.

Featuring pianist Vanessa Perez, this show will be packed with Latin rhythms with 12 percussionists on stage. Selections include "Nights in the Gardens of Spain," by Maneul de Falla and "Three Latin American Dances" by Gabriela Lena Frank. Tickets start at $27.50.

Identity's 3rd Annual Winter Gay-La: 6 p.m. Saturday, Sheraton Hotel, 401 E. 6th Ave.

With a theme of northern lights, this winter fundraiser includes both live and silent auctions, a plated dinner and a one-hour show — all hosted by Hank VanDickerson. Individual tickets are $150.

Every Brilliant Thing: 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturday, 3 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 5, Harper Studio at UAA Fine Arts Building, 3700 Alumni Dr.

This solo play touts itself as a "hilarious, moving, and a one-of-a-kind interactive theatrical experience." Directed by Colby Bleicher, it features Ryan Buen. General admission tickets are $21.

Out to Lunch: A Political Comedy: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Anchorage Community Theatre, 1133 E. 70th Ave.

The show, written and directed by Dick Reichman, has been extended for an extra weekend. Tickets, available at actalaska.org, are $25 for adults, $20 for military/students and $15 for children 12 and under.
