This weekend in Anchorage: An ice fishing jamboree, a fundraising walk and plenty of music

Feb. 11—If you're interested in ice fishing, this might be your weekend to learn the ropes, at the Jewel Lake Ice Fishing Jamboree on Saturday. If music is more your thing, there are plenty of options, including a pair of performances in Spenard and Roland Roberts live at Williwaw.

Mamma Mia!: 7 p.m. Thursday-Friday-Saturday, West High, 1700 Hillcrest Drive

The West High theater company will produce the popular musical based on the songs of ABBA composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Tickets are $10.

United Way's Walk 4 Warmth: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Presbyterian Church, 616 W. 10th Ave.

This event was organized to raise awareness of and funds for families and individuals who are struggling to meet expenses such as utility bills. The walk is free but participants are asked to register.

Jewel Lake Ice Fishing Jamboree: 10 a.m. Saturday, Jewel Lake, 4401 W. Dimond Blvd.

This all-ages event is the kickoff of the 2023 Bait Shack Community Event series. Anglers are welcome to bring their own gear but a limited number of rods and bait will be available for use for free. Residents 18 and over, and non-resident anglers ages 16 and over are required to have a current 2023 license.

Valentines for the Animals: noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Alaska Zoo, 4731 O'Malley Road

This special themed day at the Alaska Zoo includes zoo mascots, a petting zoo, fun activities in the Discovery Center and animal enrichment. It is open to the public with regular admission rates or zoo members can use their memberships.

Fine Art Fair: 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday, The Nave, 3502 Spenard Rd.

This free, family-friendly fair features over 20 local artists including Graham Dane, Jesse Cunningham, Emily Longbrake and more.

Valoweekend: 6 p.m. Saturday, The Nave, 3502 Spenard Road

This event features both local musicians and vendors. Musically, Ed Washington, Zane Penny and ManLadyLadyMan headline the bill. Vendors include Created With Cara and Broken Moon Creations among others. Tickets are $20.

Roland Roberts Band: 8 p.m. Saturday, Williwaw Social, 609 F St.

Spanning country, rock and blues, Roland Roberts has established himself as one of the state's best Americana songwriters. Roberts hits the Williwaw stage with full band on Saturday.

Spenard Roadhouse 14th Anniversary: 8 p.m. Saturday, Spenard Roadhouse, 1049 W. Northern Lights Blvd.

The eatery in the heart of Spenard celebrates its 14th birthday with help from Past Our Prime providing music.
