This weekend in Anchorage: Rocky Horror tops a list of live theater performances plus the AK Ski Swap

This weekend brings a number of theater opportunities to Anchorage, from the classic "Rocky Horror Picture Show" to the new musical "Constance & Sinestra and the Cabinet of Screams." Halloween isn't for another week, but there are already events in town, including a party at 49th State Brewing and a pumpkin carving contest.

Constance & Sinestra and the Cabinet of Screams: 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 3 p.m. Sunday, Anchorage Community Theatre, 1133 E. 70th Ave.

This new musical by Alexandra-Spencer Jones and Patrick Gleeson is described as "a heartbreaking and twisted tale of love, loss and baking perfect for lost children of all ages." Visit actalaska.org/tickets for ticketing information.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Mad Myrna's, 530 E. Fifth Ave.

The season is here again for the classic Broadway musical and its stretch of performances at Mad Myrna's. Join Brad and Janet for fun at madness. Tickets are $34-$39.

Pirates of Penzance: 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 4 p.m. Sunday, Discovery Theatre, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

This Gilbert & Sullivan classic follows a young pirate as he attempts to leave to follow his own path. The production features both international and local actors plus the Anchorage Opera Orchestra. Tickets start at $30.25.

AK Ski Swap: Noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Alaska Airlines Center, 3550 Providence Drive

The UAA ski team and the Alyeska Ski Club present the state's biggest consignment event for outdoor gear. It includes not only skis and boots but also fat tire bikes, hockey gear and other outdoor clothing and gear. Visit akskiswap.com for more details on including your items at the swap.

49th State Halloween Party: 1-5 p.m. Saturday, 49th State Brewing, 717 W. Third Ave.

This event will feature a mini-Halloween portrait session, a visit from potbelly pigs from Alaska Potbelly Pig Rescue plus crafts, face painting and balloon animals.

Pumpkin Carving Contest: 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Bernie's Bungalow Lounge, 626 D St.

For this event, the entry fee is $15 but includes a pumpkin and carving supplies. There will also be prizes for first, second and third place and you can bring your jack-o'-lantern home with you after judging. This is an outdoor event, but there are heaters on Bernie's patio.
