Check out these 4 things to do in Terrebonne and Lafourche:

Louisiana Gumbo Festival

One of the area's longest-running annual festivals is also one of the tastiest. The 49th annual Louisiana Gumbo Festival in Chackbay will celebrate the dish and serve copious amounts of it at the Chackbay Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday.

Volunteers at the festival, the major annual fundraiser for the Chackbay Volunteer Fire Department, will make and serve over 500 gallons of gumbo.

The festival is back for the first time in two years when it was canceled because of the COVID pandemic and Hurricane Ida. Admission is free.

When: Friday through Sunday.

Where: Chackbay Fairgrounds, 326 La. 304.

The festival opens Friday at 5 p.m. with a blessing of the grounds and the National Anthem. Stay that evening for live music, trick-or-treating by Krewe of Mardi Gras, and an outdoor showing of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Saturday will kick off with the Goul on the Run 1.5K fun run. The day will also include a nutria pardoning by Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, parades, and pumpkin lighting.

Sunday will wrap up the festivities with Grayhawk Native American Storytelling, African Stilt Dancing and Drumming, and more.
