Weekend fun: Terrebonne bicentennial parade, Laurel Valley Fest, Cut Off craft show

A parade in Houma, a festival in Thibodaux and a crafts show in Cut Off are on tap this weekend.

Here's a rundown of four things to do in Terrebonne and Lafourche:

Terrebonne bicentennial festival and parade

Terrebonne Parish will celebrate its 200th birthday Saturday with a parade and festival in downtown Houma.

The festival, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Courthouse Square, will include two stages with live music and storytelling. Cultural tents will offer live demonstrations of wood carving and basket weaving and display historical collections with information about Terrebonne’s history Food, including Cajun favorites, will be sold.

The parade, which will include floats, vintage cars and costumes that celebrate the parish's history, will start at 2 p.m. at the Town Hall building on Barrow Street. It will turn left on Main Street and end at the Courthouse Square. Keep an eye out for special beads, doubloons, and personalized cups for the bicentennial celebration.

Stop by the main stage and the freshly constructed bandstand in the Courthouse Square to see some live music performances.

Laurel Valley Fall Festival

The Laurel Valley Fall Festival will bring crafts, live music, food and cultural demonstrations to Thibodaux on Sunday.

The fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Valley Plantation, 595 La. 308.

The festival, which started in 1981, helps preserve and display the history of south Louisiana in a unique way, on a still-functioning sugar cane plantation.

Lafourche Relay for Life

An annual rally against cancer, the event is scheduled Saturday at the Lafourche Vistors' Center along La. 1 under the U.S. 90 overpass in Raceland.

Live music and other events start at 4 p.m. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m., closing ceremonies for 9:30 p.m.

Craft show in Cut Off

Cheramie Farms in Cut Off will host a Fun at The Farm Craft Show Saturday.

It's scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1354 40th St. in Cut Off. The craft show will feature a variety of local vendors and a petting zoo.
