Rain fell early last week as Oxnard's Pacifica High School graduates walked to their seats for commencement. The weekend brought rain and hail but a warming trend is expected this week.

A low-pressure system brought showers, a thunderstorm and hail into Ventura County over the weekend, but a slight warming trend with little rain is predicted for the rest of the week.

The system, unusual for June, was expected to drop about a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain, said Rose Schoenfeld, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.

Although the highest chances for rain were from Saturday afternoon into early Sunday, forecasts show showers could be on tap into Monday, she said.

Dry conditions and warming temperatures are expected to follow through June 17. Highs are predicted in the upper 60s to low 70s in the coastal areas and the mid to upper 70s for inland areas. A thunderstorm or two over the mountains is still possible Tuesday through Thursday, Schoenfeld said.

Showers on Tuesday dropped more than June's monthly average of about .04 inches in Oxnard, Schoenfeld said. The weather service office on Elevar Street has recorded close to a tenth of an inch so far this month.

Typically, June precipitation comes from a drizzly marine layer, she said, but recent shower activity has come amid conditions more typical of a winter pattern.

The weather service issued a flash flood warning for north Ventura County, around the remote Lockwood Valley area, as thunderstorm activity created bouts of heavy rain, pea-sized hail and gusty winds. The warning expired at 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Thunder, lighting and hail were reported in Kern County's Pine Mountain Club, north of Lockwood Valley, Saturday evening.
