This weekend: Residents of Waverly to gather, honor 2021 flood victims

Aug. 21, 2022, marks one year since heavy rainfall caused extreme flash flooding in Waverly, Tennessee, killing 20 people and damaging homes, businesses and churches.

Residents of Waverly will gather in the coming days to honor and remember victims. Here is the schedule of events:

Saturday, Aug. 20

The Waverly Church of Christ will host a grief seminar at 10 a.m. The session will be led by pastor Bill McDonald.

A live concert and candlelight vigil will take place at the Waverly Court Square beginning at 7 p.m., according to the Waverly, Tennessee Facebook page.

"We will send love and light to our loved ones as we come together as one," the event post stated.

Sunday, Aug. 21

A worship service at The Waverly Church of Christ will begin at 9 a.m., and break for lunch at 11 a.m. After lunch, the service will continue, a representative from the church said.

A public memorial event will begin at 6 p.m. at Waverly Central High School. State Sen. Kerry Roberts, R-Springfield, will attend the memorial and make remarks.

Tuesday, Aug. 23

The Loretta Lynn Ranch will host the "Humphrey's County Remembers" concert at 7 p.m. The concert will feature performances by Eric Paslay, Twitty & Lynn, William Lee Golden & The Goldens and more.
