The entertainment calendar in Wichita this weekend is full of choices for music lovers, bookworms and people looking to entertain the kids.

Following is a list of some of the fun things happening in and around Wichita this weekend:

Wichita Riverfest closing weekend

Friday-Saturday, downtown Wichita around Century II

It’s hard to believe, but the 51st Wichita Riverfest is already ending. The final weekend will be filled with music, food, fireworks and fun. Admission to all events is a festival button that’s $15 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 at QuikTrip stores and at festival gates. Among the biggest events happening over the weekend:

Fiesta del Rio: This all-day party drew big crowds to Kennedy Plaza last year, and it returns from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday. The focus is on Wichita’s Hispanic community, and the day will feature Mexican food for sale, a Mexican “mercado” with Hispanic vendors, and a night full of popular Norteno bands on the main stage. The headliner, Eden Munoz, will be the evening’s final performer.

Budweiser Clydesdales: The popular horses are making another Wichita Riverfest appearance this year and will be hanging out from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday on the west side of the former Wichita Public Library building.

Riverfest Classic Car Show: This annual event features cars lined up along Douglas between Water and Main. The show lasts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Parmalee: The closing night music headliner is Parmalee, a country music group known for the hit “Take My Name.” Opening acts include Jenna & Martin and Jared “Pete” Gile, a singer/songwriter from Kansas. The closing night music is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on the Kennedy Plaza stage.

Closing night fireworks: The finale fireworks show is scheduled to start around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, and it will be different from the shows people are used to. This one will last about 13 minutes and will feature lower-flying fireworks stretched out between the Douglas and Lewis street bridges. People can’t sit on the west bank of the river to watch this year. The best viewing spots, organizers say, will be the river’s east bank.

Copies of the book, a collection of humorous essays, will be for sale at the event as will paperback copies of the author’s many titles from the past, including “Me Talk Pretty One Day,” “Holidays on Ice” and “A Carnival of Snackery.” Sedaris is known for taking time with each person at his signings, drawing little pictures in their books and chatting with them for a couple of minutes. He was just in Wichita in November and signed books at an event at The Orpheum.
