Weekend roundup: Aberdeen Cougar girls remain unbeaten with 10-0 drubbing of Brookings

Aiden Raap scored three goals in 5:43 in the third period helping boost Aberdeen to a 10-0 win over Brookings in high school girls hockey Saturday at the Odde Ice Center.

The Cougars scored four goals in both the second and third periods. They outshot Bookings 25-8.

With the win, Aberdeen improved to 4-0 on the season.

Raap finished with four goals and an assist. Sydney Hofer had a goal and two assists.

The Cougars played at Watertown Sunday afternoon. Next up for the defending state champions is a Dec. 11 game at Rushmore in Rapid City.

Wings split against Minot

Seamus Campbell and Will Gilson scored third-period goals to help Aberdeen to a 4-2 victory over Minot Saturday night in North American Hockey League action at the Odde Ice Center.

The game was tied 2-2 after two periods. Gilson's empty-netter with 48 seconds left in the game sealed the victory for the Wings, 11-10-0-1.

Cade Neilson had a goal and two assists for Aberdeen. Goalie Greg Orosz saved 27 of 29 shots to pick up the win.

Friday night, Minot's Christian Kadolph scored his first goal of the season with 4:32 left in the game to boost the Minotauros to a 4-3 win in Aberdeen.

The Wings scored early to lead, then gave up three straight goals before tying the game with 2:02 left in the second period on a goal by Jackson Yee.

Masten tabbed as NSIC North Division Player of the Week

Off of a game-high 34 points in a win over Black Hills State, Northern State junior guard Sam Masten was selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division Offensive Player of the Week.

Along with leading the Wolves offensively, Masten came in clutch and scored the go-ahead layup in the second half. Against South Dakota Mines, he had a team-high 14 points.

Before transferring to Northern, Masten played for the University of Northern Colorado where he averaged 6.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game as a starter for the Bears.

Neilson selected Central Division Star of the Week

Aberdeen Wings forward Cade Neilson was honored for his performance during the week ending Nov. 21. He was named the NAHL Central Division Star of the Week.

In two games against Bismarck, Neilson had six points, two goals and four assists.
