District meets

A week's worth of district competition concluded on Saturday with one area school bolting to district titles and four others claiming runner-up honors.

The week kicked off with Pensacola Christian Academy sweeping the District 1-1A championship on Tuesday from Jay High School. Victorious in eight events, the PCA boys claimed the team title with 243 points, beating second-place Baker, which finished with 171 points.

On the girls side, PCA's 206.5 points were enough to scoot past the Gators' 186.5. The Warriors' 20-point margin of victory comes one year after Baker outperformed PCA by 20 points.

The PCA girls duo of RaeAnne Tutton and Jaimee Tutton were equally as dominant in the same individual events. RaeAnne Tutton took first in each race while Jamiee Tutton finished alongside in second, a mere hundredth of a second behind each time.

Making up half of PCA's winning 4x800 relay team, the Tutton sisters had a role in four of the Warriors' six wins. The other two featured Caroline Rimmer. The defending state champion in the pole vault easily won the event at districts by more than three feet. She also played a role in the team's triumph in the 4x400 relay.

At the District 1-3A meet from Fort Walton Beach, Pine Forest claimed three events to earn second place in boys competition with 149 points. The Eagles finished 18 points behind the host and champion Vikings.

D'Antonio Warren led Pine Forest with wins in the 100 and 200 while teammate Kieantae Hill was the leader in the high jump.

Bumped by a pair of wins with field events, Pace also took second in girls competition with a score of 109 points. Choctaw won the title running away with 176 points.

The Patriots got wins from Rylee Henderson in the discus and Ava Grace Wheaton in the javelin.

Both the District 1-4A and 1-2A meets were held Saturday from Santa Rosa Beach.

In 1-2A, Pensacola rode the efforts of Dominique Hughley and Jeremiah McWilliams to a runner-up finish. The Tigers racked up 187 points, second to only South Walton's total of 236.

Hughley crossed the finish line first in the 200 and 400 before anchoring Pensacola to a win in a 4x100. McWilliams took two individual events: the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

The West Florida girls were also second best in 1-2A after accumulating 187 points. Just like in boys competition, the Falcon girls won the district title with 230 points.

The Jaguars wins came from Jennifer Mims (300 hurdles), Christina Lett (shot put) and Kennedy McCarthy in the triple jump.

Lastly, Navarre was the area's best school in 1-4A. The boys team captured third with 105 points while the girls were fifth with 60 points. Niceville swept both team district titles.

The Raiders got a pair of event wins from both the boys and girls teams. On the boys end, Eddie Love Jr took home the victory in the 200 and Dante Core was the winner in the triple jump. For the Lady Raiders, Rachel Leggett stood at the top of the podium in the high jump and the long jump.
