Weekend sports schedule: TCU vs. Georgia, NFL Week 18 among games to watch on TV Jan. 6-9
The first full weekend of 2023 is here.
And it is a big one in terms of sports on television viewing.
Friday, Jan. 6 through Monday, Jan. 9 offers some great options for games to watch, with the final week of the NFL regular season and the College Football Playoff National Championship taking center stage.
Here are some games to watch this weekend and how to watch them. All times MST.
Friday, Jan. 6
NBA: Nets at Pelicans, 5:30 p.m., ESPN
The Nets are one of the hottest teams in the NBA, but face a test against a Pelicans team that is 17-4 at home.
NBA: Heat at Suns, 8 p.m., ESPN, Bally Sports Arizona
These two teams have been big disappointments so far this season, but it's too early to count them out.
Saturday, Jan. 7
Men's college basketball: Creighton at UConn, 10 a.m., FOX
UConn was 14-0 before dropping two straight. Now, it faces a Creighton team that appears to have righted the ship after a tough stretch.
Men's college basketball: Kentucky at Alabama, 11 a.m., ESPN
Can the Wildcats upset the Crimson Tide?
Men's college basketball: Iowa State at TCU, noon, ESPNU
Both of these teams are in the Top 25. TCU's lone loss came by one point in November.
Men's college basketball: Michigan at Michigan State, 12:30 p.m., FOX
It's Michigan vs. Michigan State. That's always worth keeping an eye on.
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders, 2:30 p.m., ESPN, ABC
The Chiefs are fighting for the top berth in the AFC playoffs, while the Raiders are looking toward next season.
NFL: Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, 6:15 p.m., ESPN, ABC
The winner of this game will take home the AFC South title and the home playoff game that comes with it.
Men's college basketball: Arkansas at Auburn, 6:30 p.m., SEC Network
12-2 Arkansas vs. 11-3 Auburn could provide some fireworks.

Sunday, Jan. 8
NFL: Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 11 a.m., CBS
The Ravens really need Lamar Jackson back to have any chance of winning in the postseason.
Men's college basketball: Ohio State at Maryland, 11 a.m., ESPN
This could be a sneaky good Big Ten matchup.
NFL: New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins, 11 a.m., FOX
The Dolphins went from 8-3 to 8-8 during this five-game losing streak. Still, they have a shot at the postseason.
Women's college basketball: South Carolina at Mississippi State, 11 a.m., ESPN2
Can anyone beat the Gamecocks this season?
NFL: New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills, 11 a.m., CBS
The Patriots need to beat the Bills to have a chance at the postseason.
Women's college basketball: Iowa State at Oklahoma, 1 p.m., ESPN2
A matchup between Top 25 teams that could be very interesting.
NFL: Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders, 2:25 p.m., FOX
Washington has nothing to play for now, except perhaps to try to spoil the Cowboys' division title hopes.
NFL: Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers, 2:25 p.m. FOX
The 49ers have won 9 straight games to vault up the standings. An Eagles slip-up could make them the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
Men's college basketball: Purdue at Penn State, 4 p.m., Big Ten Network
Penn State would love to upset Purdue.
Women's college basketball: Oregon at Arizona, 5 p.m., ESPN
This Pac-12 matchup could end up having big implications in the conference.
NFL: Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers, 6:20 p.m., ESPN
The Lions have to win this game to have a chance at the playoffs. The Packers are in with a win.

Monday, Jan. 9
College Football Playoff National Championship: TCU vs. Georgia, 5:30 p.m., ESPN
Will Georgia repeat as champions or will TCU pull off the huge upset? This game will be the icing on top of the incredible weekend of sports cake.
