Weekend storm hits Bay Area: Latest updates
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — An atmospheric river is set to wash over the Bay Area, bringing multiple rounds of rain beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Monday morning. Light rain will begin in the early afternoon on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
“Once we get into Friday, it’s going to be soggy,” said KRON 4 Meteorologist Kyla Grogan.
Heavier rain with a chance of thunderstorms will arrive Friday night into Saturday morning. Heavier rainfall could bring rapid rises in rivers and streams along with gusty southerly winds, the NWS said.

Saturday will bring scattered showers before heavy rain Saturday evening into Sunday could bring flooding on roadways. The weekend’s heaviest rain is due to arrive Sunday evening along with thunderstorms and more winds.
“The second wave of rain will come our way Sunday into Monday. This is the one that will be the most impactful and will have higher totals associated with it,” Grogan said.
Monday should see light rain showers along with lingering floods as rivers start to recede, the NWS said.

The National Weather Service has warned of increased potential for thunderstorms Friday evening through early morning Saturday. “There is a marginal to slight risk of excessive rainfall resulting in rapid onset flooding,” the NWS said.
