Weekend things to do: A new hidden bar in Flagler Village, drinking with dogs

This is opening weekend at Lost & Found Sistrunk, a rum lounge and speakeasy in Fort Lauderdale debuting on Thursday inside Sistrunk Marketplace & Brewery near Flagler Village.

Aside from the allure of a bar with a hidden entrance (through the Flower Shop), Lost & Found has a full bar with more than 75 varieties of rum and other spirits. Featured will be Shady’s 12 Mile Rum and Shady Vodka from Jonny Verplanck’s Shady Distillery, which opened last fall in the back of the sprawling warehouse that is home to Sistrunk Marketplace.

Cocktails at Lost & Found will be directed by head mixologist Tania Duprey, who promises a one-of-a-kind experience, especially for rum enthusiasts.

“At its core, Lost & Found is a local getaway tucked within a neighborhood,” Duprey said in a statement. “Our hope is that guests will be intrigued by our variety of rums and open to expanding ... [to] something new.”

Lost & Found also will be the setting for Shady Distillery Dinners, part of Dine Out Lauderdale through the end of September. The four-course dinners include a tour of Shady Distillery.

Lost & Found Sistrunk will be open 4 p.m.-close Wednesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-close on Sunday. Visit SistrunkMarketplace.com.

Weekend laughs

In its list of the 50 Best Stand-up Comics of All Time, Rolling Stone had a spot for Russell Peters (No. 44) and described him as “arguably the first truly global stand-up superstar.” It may surprise you that Peters is playing the intimate confines of the Palm Beach Improv in West Palm Beach this weekend, with shows at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Friday and 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday. It also may surprise you that tickets ($50, plus drinks) are still available. Visit PalmBeachImprov.com. … In case it needs to be said, Bill Burr’s two performances at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood have been sell-outs for some time.

Electric company

Reminder: Miami-based lo-fi groovers Electric Kif will bring music from their new album, “Dreamlike” — shimmery and ethereal one moment, propulsive and assertive the next — to a record-release show 8 p.m. Friday at the Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton. Tickets start at $15. Visit ElectricKif.com.

Pure Fort Lauderdale

The late, great Fort Lauderdale bar known affectionately as Internationally World Famous Treasure Trove is gone, but there are places where Fort Lauderdale is still about flip-flops and acoustic guitars. Take Park & Ocean, inside Birch State Park. This week the Treasure Trove Instagram (yes, it has an IG) reminded us that Peter White and Rich Della Fera will rekindle the vibe they used to create at Jeff Rudd’s beloved old watering hole from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Park & Ocean. Hey, Catfish, how ‘bout you? Visit ParkAndOcean.com.

Ticket window

Iconic singer-songwriter James Taylor and special guest Jackson Browne will play the BB&T Center in Sunrise on Nov. 10, with tickets on sale 10 a.m. Friday. Times being what they are, Ticketmaster advises that attendees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received a negative COVID-19 test within 72-hours prior to entering the venue. Visit Ticketmaster.com.

Beer and hip-hop for good

Grandview Public Market at the Warehouse District in West Palm Beach hosts the Hops and Hip-Hop Beer Fest 5-10 p.m. Saturday, with dueling DJs and unlimited beer tastings from top local breweries, with all proceeds going to Light the Night and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Beer will be served in a custom sampling mug, with breweries including nearby Steam Horse Brewing, American Icon Brewery, Due South, NOBO, Hollywood Brewing, Pompano Beach Brewing, South Beach Brewing, Twisted Trunk Brewing and many others. Tickets range from $55 to $100, with VIP entry at 5 p.m., general admission at 6 p.m. Free valet parking starts at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth and Clare avenues. Visit Facebook.com/grandviewpublic.

Drinking with dogs

The World Famous Parrot Lounge will host its monthly Dogs, Beaches and Brews happy hour 5-10 p.m. Friday. Just south of Fort Lauderdale’s Dog Beach, at Sunrise and A1A, the iconic bar is perfectly situated for a post-walk drink. A $5 donation to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue gets you a free drink. Visit: ParrotLounge.com.

There are many reasons to visit Craft Beer Cellar, one of the under-appreciated waterfront spots in Fort Lauderdale, in the space (2301 NE 26th St.) that once was home to the Revenant Coffee House (RIP). On Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., the dog-friendly happy hour in the beer garden comes with $1 off draft pours and quality time with your four-legged friend. Visit Facebook.com/cbcftl.

The bar Death or Glory in downtown Delray Beach will host a dog-friendly happy hour 4-7 p.m. Sunday to benefit Salty Dog Paddle, the West Palm Beach-based nonprofit SUP and surf brand, and its work with injured rescue animals. Visit Facebook.com/saltydogpaddle.

Flea marketing

Speaking of dogs, Barkery and Brew (doughnuts, pupcakes and chicken nuggets made specifically for canines; cold brew for you) will be among the vendors at the Grow & Gather edition of Flamingo Flea noon-4 p.m. Sunday at Tarpon River Brewing in downtown Fort Lauderdale. This gathering of leading local picklers, jam makers and food purveyors also will include Yaya’s Island Shack, Make Them Jelly, In a Pickle, Pibo Hot Sauce and others. Visit Facebook.com/theflamingoflea.

Cold shot

Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s hyper-local, community-involved Argyle Coffee Roasters (husband and wife Manny Carrera and Amy Miller) recently debuted Nitro Cold Brew, available in four-pack cans at the roastery (729 NW First St., Bay 5) and sold individually at cool spots around town. They include Batch Cookies, Sip Java Coffee, LoveLee Bakery, Oakland Coffee and Lunchroom. You’ll also find it on tap at Our Grounds, Top Hat Deli, Foxy Brown, Pac Pastries, Andy’s Live Fire Grill and LauderAle. Visit ArgyleCoffeeRoasters.com.
