Date: Opens July 17, Wednesday
Venue: All major cinemas nationwide

The new live-action The Lion King opens in the Philippines today. While critics and audiences alike have questioned the purpose of remaking the classic Disney animated film, it will undoubtedly still scratch the nostalgia itch for millennials who grew up with the movie.

The Lion King needs no introduction or synopsis. This version directed by Jon Favreau follows the same Hamlet-inspired story about lion cub Simba and his relationship with his father King Mufasa. The realistic CGI felines are voiced by Donald Glover (Simba), Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Nala), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), and James Earl Jones (Mufasa).

The cast also includes Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, and John Oliver as Zazu.

Those who want to exercise their own creativity can do so through writing this Saturday.

There, attendees will learn helpful writing prompts and drafting tools. Perhaps most importantly, they will also learn the basic structure of fiction stories and metaphors used in poetry, which can then be applied to non-fiction work.

The workshop is open to everyone 18 years old and above. It will run from 1pm to 4pm. The free is priced at PHP1,000 (US$19.60).
