Welcome to the weekly Port City Life newsletter brought to you by me, StarNews reporter John Staton.

With a stellar lineup of events set for this weekend, along with a near-constant flow of news from the food world, I will strive to keep you abreast of all the important cultural info you need to stay current with what's going down in Wilmington. I'll toss a few newsy tidbits your way as well. Let's get this party started.

Weekend weather outlook

On the one hand, it looks like Wilmington this weekend will be spared the extreme heat blanketing much of the country. On the other hand, a rainy weekend with scattered thunderstorms, particularly on Sunday, is looking likely, with Friday and maybe even Saturday your best chance for some sun.

Go | See | Do

Given the iffy weather outlook, maybe you just want to stay inside and binge the first three episodes of Wilmington-shot teen drama "The Summer I Turned Pretty," which hit Amazon Prime on Friday. It's the second season of the show about young love on "Cousins Beach," and if it's anything like season one, Wilmington locations should be well-represented.

If teen romance isn't your thing, there are a ton of fun Wilmington concerts this weekend, including Barenaked Ladies at Live Oak Bank Pavilion on Friday, and smooth jazz icon Kenny G at Cape Fear Community College's Wilson Center on Saturday. And that's just for starters.

Buffaloe's. If you know, you know. But even if you're not a longtime Wilmingtonian who's gotten a keg or two from the Wrightsville Avenue store, you might want to stop in and check out their brand-new and very delicious-looking food offerings. Food writer Allison Ballard has the details.

Plus, check in with Sam Cahoon, chef of the popular Savorez restaurant, on how he's expanding his business, and find out about the new Wilmington location for Surf City's Shaka Taco.
