Weekly COVID report: 80 new cases, one death

The Tuscarawas County Health Department reported 80 new cases of COVID-19 in the seven-day period ending Thursday, compared to 51 new cases in the previous week. The county had 221 active cases on Thursday.

One more COVID-19 related death was reported in the past week by the Ohio Department of Health's Bureau of Vital Statistics, which reported a total of 506 deaths on Friday in Tuscarawas County.

There were five new hospitalizations of county residents with COVID-19 this week, according to the county health department.

During the seven days ending Thursday, rates of new COVID-19 infection in the United States, Ohio and Tuscarawas County have been increasing steadily.

As of Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's post said Ohio had 16 counties at the medium/yellow COVID-19 community level and two counties at the high level/red for COVID-19 transmission.

Tuscarawas County is one of 70 Ohio counties that remains at the low/green community level for COVID-19 transmission.

In areas with a low COVID-19 community level, the CDC recommends that people stay home and get tested if they are sick and stay up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters. Those at high risk for COVID-19 are encouraged to wear masks while indoors and in crowded locations.
